Haugesund: France’s Wide Moves ‘2 Nights Till Morning’ (Exclusive)

18 August 2015 1:54 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Having represented the two highest-profile Swiss titles at Locarno last week, Paris-based sales-production house Wide has acquired international sales rights to “2 Nights Till Morning,” the English-language debut of Helsinki-based Mikko Kuparinen.

“2 Nights” toplines Canada’s Marie-Josee Croze, a Cannes 2003 best actress winner for Denys Arcand’s “Barbarian Invasions.” She was also a highlight in Steven Spielberg’s “Munich,” and played the speech therapist in Julian Schnabel’s “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.” Finland’s Mikko Nousianen, seen in Renny Harlin’s “5 Days of War,” co-stars.

“2 Nights” plays Haugesund’s New Nordic Films screenings, which kicks off today, before getting its North American premiere at the Montreal Festival, which bows Aug. 27, and big market premiere at Toronto, which begins Sept. 10.

Also written by Kuparinen and his second feature after “Body Fat Index of Love,” “2 Nights Till Morning” stars Croze as a French architect on a business trip who meets Nouianen’s D. »

The Ultimate Guide To Suicide Squad

15 July 2015 11:12 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The key to a successful universe is balance – something proven to be the case in both fact and fiction – on the page, and on the screen. Everything has its opposite, and you cannot have one without the other. There can be no good without evil, no light without darkness, and no heroes without villains. Thus, we have Suicide Squad – DC’s antidote to its morally conscientious Justice League, and the largely criminal yin to that overwhelmingly valiant yang.

The first version of Suicide Squad appeared in the comic The Brave And The Bold #25 in 1959, and at one point became known as Task Force X. The concept was rebooted by John Ostrander in Legends #3 in 1987, however, and while the first incarnation was created to replace the outgoing Justice League Of America, the rebooted version was based on the idea that an anti-hero team made up mostly of supervillains incarcerated in Belle »

Grey’s Anatomy’s Arizona Is Sticking Around: Jessica Capshaw Signs Three-Year Contract Extension

29 June 2015 7:58 AM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Arizona Robbins isn’t leaving Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital anytime soon. According to TVLine, who first reported the news yesterday, Jessica Capshaw, who plays the character on Grey’s Anatomy, has struck a new deal with ABC after her contracted expired back in May. What’s most interesting, though, is that this new contract is reportedly for three years, meaning that Capshaw will remain on the series throughout the 2017-18 TV season (and thus the show’s upcoming twelfth and possibly thirteenth and fourteenth seasons), even though, at this point, Grey’s Anatomy has only been renewed for Season 12, which will being airing this fall and end in the spring of 2016. The news of Capshaw’s new contract is coming out just as ABC readies to renegotiate with many of her castmates, including Sara Ramirez,  who plays Callie Torres, Arizona’s on-again-off-again wife/love interest. Ramirez’s current deal, along »

28 June 2015 7:40 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The final scene in the series finale of “Nurse Jackie” is sure to spark debate among viewers. It was argued about after the fact even among the writers of the Showtime dramedy that wrapped its seven-season run on Sunday night.

Spoiler Alert: Stop reading if you have not seen the “Nurse Jackie” series finale, “I Say a Little Prayer.”

The episode closes with Edie Falco’s Jackie Peyton collapsing at All Saints Hospital from a presumed drug overdose, having snorted multiple lines of heroin a few minutes earlier. As her coworkers rush to help her, the camera zooms in on Falco lying prostrate on the floor. Her eyes open a crack and her lips move ever so slightly while Merrit Wever’s Zoey strokes her hair and tells her “You’re good, Jackie. You’re good.”

By Lee Pfeiffer

Director Joe Dante is revered by his fans not only as a filmmaker but also because of his genuine passion for classic and cult cinema. Dante, like so many other filmmakers and actors who became successes, was a protégé of Roger Corman, starting out as an editor. Before long, he had progressed to directing and had a hit with his 1978 horror flick "Piranha". His deft ability to make audiences cringe as well as laugh became his trademark. More successful films followed including a segment of the "Twilight Zone" feature film, his werewolf classic "The Howling", "Gremlins", which is considered a classic by the generation who saw it as children, "Innerspace", "Amazon Women on the Moon", "The 'Burbs", "Matinee" and "Small Soldiers". In recent years, Dante has been busy operating his extremely popular web site Trailers From Hell, which showcases original movie trailers from decades ago, complete with »

Nashville Season 3 Finale Recap: Whose Flatline Is It Anyway?

13 May 2015 7:59 PM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

The following contains spoilers from Nashville‘s Season 3 finale. (Because it would be a terrible recap if it didn’t.)

Nashville‘s fourth season needs to get here, Stat.

While I do not actually believe that a series built on the promise of Rayna Jaymes reuniting with soulmate Deacon Claybourne would eliminate one half of that equation at this point, I’d feel a lot better knowing for certain that the Ekg flatline we see at the end of the Season 3 finale isn’t hooked up to his strapping, just-the-right-amount-of-furred chest.

1 April 2015 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Talk to anyone who knows him, and they will all tell you one thing: Jon Hamm is not Don Draper.

Though he shot to fame as the tortured antihero at the center of AMC’s “Mad Men,” he gravitates to comic roles to show off his lighter side, stealing scenes in “Bridesmaids” and popping up on “Saturday Night Live.”

But the pressure of life in the spotlight may have taken its toll. In late February, he quietly checked himself into the Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut for treatment of alcohol abuse. The news broke less than two weeks before the April 5 premiere of “Mad Men’s” final season, in the midst of promotional duties for the show. Hamm’s representatives issued this statement: “With the support of his longtime partner Jennifer Westfeldt, Jon Hamm recently completed treatment for his struggle with alcohol addiction. They have asked for privacy and sensitivity going forward. »
