Warner Bros. mines Zwick for 'Diamond'

4 March 2005 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Director Ed Zwick has signed on to direct the adventure drama Diamond for Warner Bros. Pictures. Formerly known as Okavango, Diamond recounts the story of a poor African farmer who gets caught up in a conflict between an American diamond smuggler and the syndicate that controls the local diamond-mining industry, all in the path of one very valuable diamond. Zwick and Bedford Falls partner Marshall Herskovitz rewrote the original script from Charlie Mitchell. Charles Leavitt also did a rewrite. Producing are Paula Weinstein, Gillian Gorfil, Darrell Roodt, Zwick and Herskovitz. Len Amato also will take a producing credit. Zwick is attached to direct Happy Endings. He is the director of such films as The Last Samurai and Courage Under Fire, and his producer credits include Traffic and I Am Sam. Zwick and Herskovitz made their mark in television on such series as thirtysomething, My So-Called Life and Once and Again. Zwick is repped by CAA. »
