Storyline

A television anthology series which attempted to illuminate various aspects of the Vietnam war by dramatizing true stories of both combat and personal relations. Most of the stories were not actual representations of the originating events, but were stories which were inspired by real-life events while being wholly fictional in details. Most of the episodes were written by Vietnam veterans. Written by Jim Beaver <jumblejim@prodigy.net>

A unique H.B.O. series.
3 July 2004 | by (Sacramento, CA) – See all my reviews

Vietnam War Story (1987) was an interesting made-for-cable series that aired for little over a year on H.B.O. The show was based upon the events that occurred during the Vietnam War era. The show revolved around every day situations that happened to soldiers, new recruits or families. The show was unique because of the way the film-makers used the subject matter. No glorification of damning of the war. Just a slice of life, how the events out in the field or at home were shaped by the Vietnam conflict. Worth a look.

Since the episodes were different in quality, they differ from excellent to mediocre.
