Sex & Nudity

  • 3/10
  • Some sexual references, mostly in the early seasons.
  • Deanna, a member of the Enterprise, regularly wears a tight, form-fitting outfit that shows some cleavage.
  • A few people they come across throughout the series wear revealing, sometimes provocative attire.
  • Tasha Yar spent lots of her childhood running away from rape gangs.

Violence & Gore

  • 4/10
  • In some episodes, phaser damage is shown (i.e stunning or disintegration). Deep gash wounds and minor fist fights are also seen here and there.
  • Chain of command has deep psychological torture. But it is not that violent. and it turns out all right in the end.
  • 8/10 One episode of notable violence "Conspiracy". A man's head graphically explodes onscreen, and his chest is ripped open showing insides.


  • 2/10
  • "Hell" and "damn" are used, as well as at least one use of "ass," although sometimes it is used to mean "fool" instead of the rear end. Picard swears in French at least twice

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • 3/10
  • Alcohol is dealt with by way of a futuristic alternative synthahol, that doesn't get you drunk.
  • There are oblique references to drugs and addiction but mostly by allegory. For example season 5 episode The Game looks at the process of addiction in detail, in this case to an electronic game that releases pleasure causing chemicals. The message is always from the side a parent would want.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • 7/10
  • There can be some very frightening and creepy episodes (Night Terrors, Schisms, Frame of Mind, esc).
  • Some episodes have a generally unsettling feel (Time Squared, Conspiracy, Eye of the Beholder, esc).
