The series revolves around Evie Ethel Garland, who is the daughter of Troy and Donna Garland. However, Troy is an alien from the planet Antereus. As a benefit of her half-alien parentage, Evie develops three powers as the series progresses. She can pause and un-pause time, "gleep" objects into existence, and can transport herself from one place to another. Troy is living on Antereus and is never seen, but Evie talks to him via a crystal cube. Evie is thirteen at the beginning of the series and lives with her mother in Marlowe, California. Visitors to the Garland home include Donna's brother Beano Froelich; the mayor Kyle Applegate, a former actor; Lindsey Selkirk, Evie's best friend; Chris Fuller, Evie's boyfriend; and Buzz, who tends to take things literally. Episodes usually revolve around Evie getting herself out of a situation that she has caused. Written by John T. Ernest

Did You Know?

The theme song, "Swinging on a Star", is an adapted version of Bing Crosby's number one hit of the same name in the summer of 1944. The original lyrics are a moral message about self-improvement and achievement in life ("swinging on a star"), while the alternative (a life of underachieving) is depicted using animals. However, in the modified lyrics, the animal is replaced with "an earthling" and the song compares human life on Earth with alien life in space; representing the two aspects of Evie herself. Pure nostalgia. They don't do 'em like this anymore!

I was a very happy kid when I watched "Out of this World" for many reasons. First, it was a very entertaining show that offered light comedy, funny situations, and best of all, it made my want to have Evie's powers. Plus I had a crush on Maureen Flannigan ;) Objectively, it was a cute, fun show oriented for a younger audience but that didn't mean it couldn't be enjoyed by grown-ups. I caught it's re-runs when I was a teenager (mid 90's) and I enjoyed the same way when I was a kid. I didn't miss a single episode when it came on t.v.

Maureen Flannigan was the perfect Evie. She was very beautiful, cute, funny, and delivered a good acting. She was the main reason to watch the show. Donna Pescow was really funny and talented. I can't believe she stopped acting. Doug McClure was really goofy and funny. The kind of character that supports perfectly a sitcom. Buzz Belmondo made weird appereances but the man was funny! Overacted yes, but funny. Christina Nigra and Steve Bauer were also goofy but made a good team with Evie. Burt Reynold's voice delivered the moral messages and was a good example for Evie. He taught her how to use her powers.

Thinking about this show makes me think and miss my days as a kid. Thank you "Out of this World" for making my childhood happier. Heck, even the opening song for the show makes me happy.
