The series revolves around Evie Ethel Garland, who is the daughter of Troy and Donna Garland. However, Troy is an alien from the planet Antereus. As a benefit of her half-alien parentage, Evie develops three powers as the series progresses. She can pause and un-pause time, "gleep" objects into existence, and can transport herself from one place to another. Troy is living on Antereus and is never seen, but Evie talks to him via a crystal cube. Evie is thirteen at the beginning of the series and lives with her mother in Marlowe, California. Visitors to the Garland home include Donna's brother Beano Froelich; the mayor Kyle Applegate, a former actor; Lindsey Selkirk, Evie's best friend; Chris Fuller, Evie's boyfriend; and Buzz, who tends to take things literally. Episodes usually revolve around Evie getting herself out of a situation that she has caused. Written by

The theme song, "Swinging on a Star", is an adapted version of Bing Crosby's number one hit of the same name in the summer of 1944. The original lyrics are a moral message about self-improvement and achievement in life ("swinging on a star"), while the alternative (a life of underachieving) is depicted using animals. However, in the modified lyrics, the animal is replaced with "an earthling" and the song compares human life on Earth with alien life in space; representing the two aspects of Evie herself. Stunning blonde cutie, stopping time with alien powers
I remember first watching this American show, back in my early years of high school. I really used to fancy Maureen Flanagan, who played Evie. The plot centered around Evie who inherited alien powers on her 13th birthday and from then on could stop time by joining her two fingers together. One of the regular guests bobbing in to the Garland household was "mayor Applegate" played by the late Doug McClure. Not normally being a fan of American sit-coms, i was surprised at how much i enjoyed this show, and how all the major characters, Donna Garland (Evie's mother) uncle Beano, Steve and Buzz made an integral part of the show and i always felt sad for Evie ( i was only 11 or 12 at the time) because she never quite got to meet her alien dad!!! A classic show that should be repeated!!!
