This is a story about a sports broadcaster later turned morning talk show host Danny Tanner and his three little girls, D.J. (Donna Jo), Stephanie and Michelle Tanner. Before the show begins, Danny Tanner's wife is killed by a drunk driver. So he needs help raising his three little girls. He asks his rock musician brother-in-law, Jesse Katsopolis, and his comedian best friend, Joey Gladstone, to move in with them. As the show goes on, Jesse gets married to Rebecca Donaldson, Danny's co host of the talk show. The two have kids of their own, who are twins, Alexander and Nicholas Katsopolis. User Reviews

an opinion similar to most others
3 November 1999 | by (WA) – See all my reviews

Like many other people in the world, I watched "Full House" as a child and for some reason loved it, and I watch its constant reruns when I am not working and wonder, well, just what it was I loved about it so much. For "Full House" can be two things, it can be entertaining in a corny, overblown, sickening way, or it can simply be sickening, overblown, corny, unrealistic and dull. But I still watch it to pass the time, when there's nothing better to do. That does not mean I am always enjoying it, though.

For one thing, who could actually ENJOY these characters? If they are not cotrived, cliched and charisma free, they are whiny, non-sympathetic(especially Stephanie, Joey and Michelle)and plain irritating. Michelle, the stupid youngest daughter, for example, is treated as "cute" as she says smart-alecky comments to her family and friends, demands of everybody(an awful episode had her protesting some action figure, how mannish, and instead of getting scolded, she got a REWARD), and even steals their food(two annoying episodes have the Pig stealing people's dessert as a studio audience laughs joyfully. One of them, where she is sticking her face in a bunch of wedding cake samples, is simply repulsive and an example of brattiness at its worse.) Of course Michelle is supposed to be some "role model," but how on earth can this be accepted? I've never seen a character so overrated.

And Stephanie. I remember some article where Jodie Sweten was trying to complain about the Olson twins getting famous and nobody else. Perhaps nobody latched onto her because of the character she played. I'm sure the intent of Stephanie was to make her similar to Jan Brady as a "typical middle child trying to fit in," but unlike stupid Jan, who was at least amuing when she whined and complained about her woes of life, Stephanie is just a pain. She was a literal brat in the first few seasons who always grinned and looked like she was going to burst out laughing every time she said a "funny" line, and she only grew worse with age, spouting ridiculous lines as she was supposed to be all "awkward" and "trying" to be cool(I hated her friend Gia, especially)If there was ever a character that I wished would have gotten off the show and sent to boarding school or something, it was her.

It's not like I loved the other characters: Cheesy DJ, the cure for insomnia(her "love life" with Steve certainly was, and I really don't buy her as some overachiever), also dull Aunt Becky, who spouted some of the stupidist lines the show had, the non-funny neighboor Kimmy, who spouted ever stupider lines(all of the characters had their fair share), those slow twins that Jesse and Becky had and, of course, the men. Now, it is simply impossible to like a show if I don't like the characters and I don't like any on this one. However, sime silly episodes like DJ going on a diet are slightly entertaining to watch, and even when the characters are at their most loathsome, it's better to watch that than some show that would feature vile characters being boring. At their constant stupidity makes the time pass. It doesn't mean I like it, though.
