Then-writer Maria Arena Bell named Bobbie Eakes character after the prominent department store "Macy's" as a nod to the fashion industry when the show decided to bring on a daughter for fashionista Sally Spectra (Darlene Conley).
Art imitating life: The Forrester Mansion as seen on TV was modeled after the real life mansion of series creators William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell (once owned by Howard Hughes) whereas the estate of their son Bradley Bell served as the model for the house of Brooke Logan. The backdrop shots of two other sets belong to houses owned by the Bell dynasty, though the belonging sets used on the show share no similarities with reality: The house of William J. Bell Jr. and his wife 'Maria Arena Bell' serves as the Bel Air Mansion of Ridge and Taylor Forrester, actress Lauralee Bell calls the Marone Mansion home in real life.
In 2003 the show made "Daytime Emmy Award"-history when Susan Flannery and Jennifer Finnigan were both awarded "Emmys" second year in a row - claiming both 'Outstanding Lead Actress' and 'Outstanding Younger Actress' for their roles on 'The Bold And The Beautiful'.
Between 2003 and 2005 the actress' portraying Phoebe and Steffy were changed three times. Jordan Mella and Chandler Mella assumed the roles from Brynne and Cameryn McNabb. Jordan & Chandler held the role for only a few episodes before they were replaced by Kylie Tyndall and Keaton Tyndall. Kylie and Keaton went on to hold the role for over a year before the characters were aged and replaced by, Alex Hoover and Addison Hoover who became the first twins to contract the role. After 6 months and a handful of episodes Alex and Addison were dropped to recurring status and later replaced by Mackenzie Mauzy resulting in the disappearance of one twin.
After Linda Gray joined the cast, there was a reunion with Larry Hagman (to be written in as a guest character). When Larry Hagman became ill again, the show couldn't insure him and the plans were thrown out. Linda Gray's character was eventually written out of the show.
Although they have remained with the show since the beginning the roles of Katherine Kelly Lang and Ronn Moss have been recast for short periods during this time. Brooke Logan was also played by Catherine Hickland in 1987 as a sick leave replacement and Sandra Ferguson in 1997 as a maternity leave replacement whereas Lane Davies subbed in as Ridge Forrester in 1992.
Ronn Moss was the first person to appear onscreen in the series, as Ridge Forrester. Technically, John McCook had the first line in the series in the next shot as Eric Forrester, while talking in the background to some extras, while Clayton Norcross had the first proper scripted line in the series as the first Thorne Forrester (to Ridge). Nancy Sloan as Katie was the first of the Logan family to appear in the next scene, followed by Katherine Kelly Lang as Brooke.
Barbara Crampton and Maitland Ward played mother and daughter Maggie and Jessica Forrester. Maitland Ward shares the same birthday February 3 with Kathleen Kinmont, Barbara Crampton's co-star in Fraternity Vacation.
