Most were cancelled over the years and only four remain -- The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS), Days of Our Lives (NBC), General Hospital (ABC), and The Young and the Restless (CBS). How long will these four survive? That will likely have a lot to do with the ratings. Stay tuned.Note: Each network measures its own programming's success separately. ‘Jane the Virgin’ Star Justin Baldoni Focuses on Filmmaking for a Good Cause With ‘My Last Days’

17 August 2016 12:40 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

When CW viewers tune into “My Last Days,” a three-part special airing this Wednesday through Friday, they will recognize the host of the program as “Jane the Virgin” star Justin Baldoni. But Baldoni is also the creator of the docuseries, which showcases individuals coping with terminal illness.

Baldoni takes filmmaking seriously. In fact, he never intended to be in front of the camera at all.

“I never saw myself as an actor because as a kid, I was really an ugly duckling,” he says. “Everything grew at the wrong time. I had massive eyebrows and really bad acne. I never got the girl. I was never that guy. (But) I was always very creative. It’s funny that my entry point into the business was reverse, and took me starting as an actor.”

Baldoni landed his first acting gig in 2004 with a guest role on “The Young and the Restless,” which »

Getting ready to release on Friday August 5th is Bazodee – a new style Bollywood musical with a distinctly Caribbean island flavor. Set on the vivid, colorful islands of Trinidad & Tobago and pulsing with the sensuous dance rhythms of soca music, the film is at heart a love story. It tells the tale of Anita Ponchouri (Natale Perera), the dutiful Indian daughter of a deep-in-debt businessman who is about to marry a wealthy Londoner (Staz Nair). A chance encounter with local Trinidadian singer, Lee de Leon (Soca music star Machel Montano) sets things askew. In search of a muse, de Leon agrees to perform at the engagement party. Unable to deny their mutual attraction, and with the excitement of Carnival approaching, Anita must now choose between the answer to her family’s financial prayers and the possibility of real love.

Transgender Representation On TV Hitting New Highs, From ‘Transparent’ to ‘I Am Cait’

8 June 2016 9:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Next year, Laverne Cox will play an Ivy League-educated lawyer in the CBS series “Doubt,” making her the first transgender actor to play a transgender series regular character on broadcast television. It’s a looming historic moment for television, and one in a series of recent turning points that indicates change and acceptance for the transgender community.

In 2015, Caitlyn Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover launched with viral force followed up by her reality series “I Am Cait.” In 2014, Amazon found a juggernaut in “Transparent.” The year prior, Cox was starting to become a household name for her performance in “Orange Is the New Black” and her transgender activism.

Yet, almost one year after Jenner’s announcement, transgender representation on television is still leaping over hurdles. “We still have a long way to go,” says Nick Adams, GLAAD’s director of programs and transgender media.

Rebel Wilson as Ursula, more highlights from ‘The Little Mermaid’ live

4 June 2016 10:09 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Disney fans were in for a massive smile-inducing and tear-jerking event at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl on Friday when a 71-piece orchestra and talented vocal line-up performed the music of The Little Mermaid live to picture at a concert screening. Among the cast taking on the roles in the beloved 1989 animated film were Sara Bareilles as Ariel, Rebel Wilson as Ursula, Tituss Burgess as Sebastian, Darren Criss as Prince Eric, and John Stamos as Chef Louis. In a post-Merida, post-Elsa world, Ariel’s tale of longing to leave her father’s home and adventure into another world still resonates with audiences. The ever-catchiness of the music does too. That was evident as the power of nostalgia and the promise of a solid cast packed the Hollywood Bowl at Friday night’s show. The 17,000-seat venue had sold out within three hours, and two more shows were added (for Saturday and Monday) to meet demand. »
