Goofs

At times you can tell they are using a green screen effect for the flying that the cast does and Miss Spellbinder when she is conducting a flying class when the group have got their kittens and learning to fly. Also when Mildred has turned the bad witches into snails in the TV version of the film they had squeaky voices dubbed for the snails but in the film if you watch the same scene when Mildred, Miss Cackle and Miss Hardbroom are talking to the snails the squeaky voices are not there! Just silence. See more »

Quotes

Miss Cackle, Agatha: Now, Mildred, what can I do for you?
Mildred Hubble: Ms. Hardbroom sent me.
Miss Cackle, Agatha: Oh, dear. What happened this time?
Mildred Hubble: I made the wrong potion.
Miss Cackle, Agatha: And?
Mildred Hubble: Instead of laughing... I disappeared.
Miss Cackle, Agatha: Oh dear, Mildred. Oh, dear, dear, dear. You must be the worst witch in the entire school. My words seem to go in one ear and out the other.
Mildred Hubble: I do try, Ms. Cackle. It's just that everything always goes wrong.
Miss Cackle, Agatha: I understand, dear, but you've got to apply yourself better. If you don't pass your first term exams you'll never get your ...

A cherished childhood memory...
30 June 1999 | by (Somewhere, USA) – See all my reviews

This was a great TV special that was first shown in the mid eighties. It involves a School for Witches run by Miss Cackle (Charlotte Rae, channeling Edna Garrett) and the exploits of the school's worst student Mildred Hubble (Fairuza Balk) and her best friend Maude Warlock. Mildred is generally given a hard time by Miss Hardbroom (Diana Rigg) and the school's best student Ethel Hallow, a boorish bully. The film is low on the special effects, but high on talent (not to mention it has the catchiest theme song!) Tim Curry is fantastic as The Grand Wizard. The film is sometimes shown on HBO during October, and I can recommend it to anyone as a great film for kids and those young at heart.
