Trevor Hogg profiles the career of Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood in the third of a five-part feature (read parts one and two)...
“You’ve got to keep stretching out and trying other stuff,” observed actor and director Clint Eastwood. “I could have chosen a lot of scripts that were different than Bronco Billy [1980], that were less of a challenge but it was worth trying.” The native of San Francisco, California explains, “It’s about the American Dream, and Billy’s dream that he fought so hard for. It’s all the context of this outdated Wild West show that has absolutely no chance of being a hit. But it’s sweet. It’s pure.” The subject matter resembles the work of two legendary Hollywood filmmakers. “My first thought was that Frank Capra [It’s a Wonderful Life] or Preston Sturges [Sullivan’s Travels] might have done it in their heyday. It has some values that were interesting to »

If you thought that the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 marked the end of Harry Potter in the movies, guess again. Sure, the adventures of J.K. Rowling’s boy wizard are done (at least until she decides to write the tale of Harry’s 10-year Hogwarts reunion), but the original Harry Potter – the main character in John Carl Buechler’s cult classic B movie Troll – is about to make his return to the silver screen. Buechler, who’s probably best known for directing Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (which featured a young psychic girl taking on Jason Voorhees), has been prepping the remake since roughly 2007. Things appear to be moving forward at last, and the film has even found its star – and no, it’s not...

Harry Potter is set for another movie outing in the remake of 1986 movie Troll.
In that film, child star Noah Hathaway played heroic Harry Potter, Jr. and now up-and-coming youngster Harrison Bliss has signed on to recreate the role in a new version of the cult film, titled The Troll: The Rise of Harry Potter.
Movie spokesman Ed Lozzi tells WENN that the producers and lawyers behind the film feel they can press on with the project without fear that the movie bosses behind author J.K. Rowling's Potter empire can shut it down.
Lozzi says, "The original movie was conceived, written and directed by John Carl Buechler in 1986. The film chronicled the adventures of Harry Potter, Jr. after his sister Wendy is attacked and possessed by an evil wizard, posing as a troll in the Potter family’s new apartment complex.
"This film is not a continuation of J.K. Rowling’s intrepid boy wizard. It is about everybody’s other favourite boy with magical powers - Harry Potter Jr. - and his father Harry Potter."
And the producers have signed top Los Angeles lawyer Thomas Girardi to make sure their project isn't hampered by the movie executives behind the other Potter films.
He states that Troll producers actually considered suing Warner Bros. over the Harry Potter name some years ago: "While some of the films' themes might seem familiar, Troll's owner decided not to sue J. K. Rowling or Warner Bros... because of a family tragedy at the time. They just put it on the back burner... and delayed matters until now.
"There is no problem with doing a remake of Troll because you can remake your own stuff. Everybody knows it was our material. We made the movie years before Rowling came out with her book."
A director has yet to be attached to the Troll remake.
The eighth and final Harry Potter film, The Deathly Hallows Part 2, was released to much fanfare and acclaim earlier this summer. »

Back when producer Charles Band ran Empire Pictures, he made some really high-quality B-movies. Besides Re-Animator (which is probably the most famous of all of them), he made Ghoulies, Troll, Rawhead Rex, Intruder, Prison, From Beyond, and more. Out of all the films he made with Empire, I would have to say Ghost Town is my favorite, but a close second would be TerrorVision. It seems that whenever the Empire crew set out to do a film from any gen… »

Michael Moriarty, who starred in such classic films as Who’ll Stop the Rain and Pale Rider, exiled himself to Canada in 1995, following a nasty confrontation with U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno in a Washington, D.C. hotel room. Moriarty was invited along with network television executives and producers to hear Reno’s views on censorship of TV violence. Law and Order, one of the least violent shows on television, was cited as a major offender. Incensed by Reno's campaign to “forcibly end violence on television and trample on rights of free expression as guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution,” Moriarty quit the series and left the U.S. in protest. He has been a landed immigrant in Canada ever since. Why the fateful encounter with Reno led to a radical (and seemingly overnight) transformation of Moriarty’s »

"Harry Potter Jr. expected to have a little trouble getting adjusted in his new neighborhood, but he never expected anything like this…"
Those lines may fill you with excitement at the prospect of new adventures in J.K. Rowling's wizarding world of Hogwarts, Quidditch and magic owls, but unfortunately they are not from a forthcoming novel. In fact, those words come from a trailer to a 25-year-old B-movie.
Yes, boys and girls, the original 1986 "Troll" had a character named Harry Potter who travels into a secret magical world, except this one was filled with midgets in disgusting troll makeup and sets about as lifelike as a Summer Stock Dinner Theater. And now, according to The Wrap, it's being remade.
Thomas Girardi, a legal consultant to the producers, says they have every right to capitalize on the fortunate coincidence of names.
"We’ve got the producer," said Girardi. "We’ve got »

Exclusive Another “Harry Potter” movie is in the works. No, it’s not a Warner Bros. picture. And it's not the Hogwarts guy -- though it is a Harry Potter who uses magic powers to fight evil and save the world. It's a remake of the 1986 cult hit "Troll," that featured Harry Potter Jr. and Harry Potter Sr. as lead characters. The remake will include the original characters, the filmmakers' legal consultant, Thomas Girardi, has confirmed to TheWrap. John Carl Buechler, who directed the original, will direct again, as well as produce. Also watch video: "Harry Potter" »

Syfy ordered six episodes of a new docu-reality series called Monster Man. The show follows monster master Cleve Hall and his family-owned prop workshop. Syfy promises "only the horrifying monsters they build match the craziness of this highly dysfunctional, extremely talented family." More after the jump. Hall has 30 years of genre experience under his belt, with projects like Troll, Re-Animator, Ghoulies, and TerrorVision on his CV. The show follows Cleve, daughters Constance and Elora, and ex-wife Sonja Maddox-Hall, as well as best friends Roy Knyrim, Johnny Saiko, and office manager Cindy Miller. Production starts this month, with an anticipated premiere date of January 2012. I imagine it will be paired up with »

Forget Transformers! The ultimate retro giant battling robot movie was Stuart Gordon’s Robot Jox (1990 aka Robojox) filmed in Italy with old-school stop motion giant robot battles shot here in the U.S. These rock-em-sock-em style behemoths complete with flamethrowers, lasers, giant rope-saws, and rocket propelled boxing gloves were crude, but their crunching and bashing were a sight to behold in the days before CGI. It was a fairly expensive movie from producer Charles Band’s Empire Productions (which churned out gems like Re-Gordon’s Re-animator and the original Troll) but was poorly marketed and was said to have bankrupted the studio. Robojox, though poorly written and acted, was a lot of fun when I saw it at the theater over 20 years ago, a sort of live-action mecha anime, and it is available in a nice full-screen DVD on the MGM label.

Who better to lead a veteran cast that includes The Highlander, 30 Days of Night hero Eben Oleson and a Canadian scream queen than John Carl Buechler, the man who helmed Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood, Troll and Cellar Dweller?
The director and special effects wizard returns to the captain's chair after a five-year hiatus from directing to oversee the upcoming Dark Star Hollow, a film about a man who makes a deal with the devil to save the life of his wife.
From the Press Release
While best known for directing part 7 in the Friday the 13th series, Buechler's special make-up effects and other works are well known in films like Nightmare on Elm Street 4, Halloween 4 and Trancers. He is also working on a remake of his classic film, Troll, from 1986.
