The Aquaman TV Show That Failed To Make A Splash

Neil Calloway looks at the less than successful Aquaman TV pilot from 2006…

Though we’ve seen brief glimpses of him in Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, the release of Justice League this weekend gives cinemagoers will get their first experience of Aquaman on the big screen. It turns out he isn’t a superhero who flies around the world to a soundtrack of that Danish band who sung Barbie Girl, but rather someone who has exceptional underwater abilities.

He might not be well known to the general public, but if you’d have said Iron Man to all but the biggest comic book fan before 2008 they’d think you were talking about a particularly taxing triathlon rather than a Elon Musk like superhero. As with most comic book characters, there have been previous attempts to bring him to the screen. After a version of the character appearing in an

Was The Flash's Wells Gag Wasted? Is Suits Ok Without Mike/Rachel? Did Trek Telegraph Twist? And More TV Qs
We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Star Trek: Discovery, The Flash, Empire and The Blacklist!

1 | As emotional as Once Upon a Time‘s “Regina awakening” scenes were, did the show not really give us that “moment” of her laying familiar eyes on grown Henry?

2 | Were you pleased to hear that Hawaii Five-0‘s Steve is apparently still dating Lynn? Or do you wonder where he and Danny find the time to maintain their respective romances, given their Five-0 jobs,

Let’s Not Kid Ourselves Why Kevin Spacey Has Been Cut From Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World

Neil Calloway isn’t convinced Kevin Spacey is being axed from his next film for the right reasons…

I have to take my hat off to Ridley Scott, and admire his ruthlessness in cutting Kevin Spacey from his latest film and replacing him with Christopher Plummer. There are plenty of reasons Scott has had such a long and successful career, and the fact that he doesn’t mess around is surely one of them.

Just because I admire what is being done, however, doesn’t mean I’m comfortable with it. It is, it must be said, probably the right thing to do. Spacey has not been convicted, or even charged with any crime yet, but his non-apology speaks volumes; if I had a film featuring him coming out I wouldn’t be exactly thrilled, and when your stand-in, last minute replacement is an actor the calibre of Christopher Plummer,

Anthony Edwards Exposes Hollywood Pedophile in Powerful Essay
Anthony Edwards is arguably best known for ER and Top Gun, but the actor has been an advocate for male victims of sexual assault for a number of years, lending his time to work with groups like Joyful Heart in an effort to raise awareness. It's only now that Edwards has come forward to share his own personal experience of molestation, admitting that he too is a victim of sexual assault. Anthony Edwards took to Medium to write a lengthy post about his life after sexual molestation at the age of 12.

Anthony Edwards revealed that the man in question is Producer/Director Gary Goddard (Masters of the Universe) while stating that he was like a "sick father figure" to the actor when he was a child. Late this week, the 55-year-old actor says the abuse started when he was 12-years old and that Goddard was mentoring him. Edwards says that Goddard,

Only The Brave review

Josh Brolin headlines ensemble drama Only The Brave, telling the real-life story of heroic firefighters. Here's our review.

Following the template of sorts set by Peter Berg’s films Deepwater Horizon and Patriots Day, Only The Brave is another true story of genuine American heroes. It’s not clear from the start it’s a true story if you’re unfamiliar with the real life events behind the film, as instead, the movie gets going with introducing us to an ensemble bunch of frontline forest firefighters, who try to divert fires by, quite literally, lighting more fires.

The fire company is led by Eric Marsh, played by Josh Brolin, who gamely tries to outgruff Jeff Bridges, who in turn plays his boss. Marsh pushes for better resources for the group who become the Granite Mountain Hotshots, as their lives become engulfed by Arizona fire season, and the ongoing battle to keep flames at bay.

Disney’s Crazy Star Wars: The Last Jedi Demands Make Sense

Neil Calloway understands why Disney are demanding such a high percentage of the box office for the new Star Wars film…

Early tracking (though how they work out how much a film is going to make more than a month before it’s out is beyond me) suggests that Star Wars: The Last Jedi will have an opening weekend surpassed only by The Force Awakens, and according to reports, Disney are going to make sure they get as much as that as possible. If you paid as much as Disney did for the franchise, you’d be looking to squeeze every penny you can out of it. Us box office is no longer king, so studios have to make it work for them.

By apparently demanding 65% of the box office, Disney could be accused of holding cinemas over a barrel, and by asking them to show it on their largest

Film Review: "The Snowman" (2017) Starring Michael Fassbender

  • CinemaRetro
By Mark Cerulli

Michael Fassbender plays a Norwegian detective with the high school bully magnet name of “Harry Hole” on the icy trail of a serial killer who always leaves a snowman at his crime scenes. Based on the, um, Hole literary series by Norwegian writer Jo NesbØ, the thriller also stars Rebecca Ferguson as a damaged policewoman trying to solve the crimes, Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons as a creepy industrialist and, curiously, Val Kilmer as an alcoholic detective who first opens up the case. (Kilmer’s rumored bout with cancer has sadly taken a toll as the actor looks nothing like the blonde Adonis he was in Top Gun and Batman Forever. It also sounded like he was dubbed throughout.) Although the Nordic scenery looks bleakly majestic due to Dion Beebe’s stunning cinematography and soaring helicopter shots, the plot twists and turns into a slushy mess.

Directed by Swedish filmmaker Tomas Alfredson (Tinker,

Let’s Kill The 90s Revival Before It Begins

Neil Calloway isn’t happy about the spate of upcoming 90s remakes…

It’s a cliché to say Hollywood has run out of ideas, but clichés only become clichés because they contain an element of truth, and with the possibility of remakes of some films from the 1990s nobody really wants to see, it looks like Hollywood has run out of ideas.

Make no mistake, Stranger Things 2 is the apogee of the 80s revival. While nobody had expectations about the first series, now everyone is on the edge of their seat waiting to be blown away. We haven’t had an Iran-Contra movie, but believe me, the 80s revival is over. They’ve run out of 80s films to remake, despite their sadly being no sign of an all female reboot of Big, Weekend at Bernie’s or Brewster’s Millions. Now, by the look of things at least, the

Tron 3 Was Canceled Before the Script Was Finished

Tron 3 Was Canceled Before the Script Was Finished
It's been a long time since Disney tried to bring the Tron franchise to modern audiences with Tron: Legacy, which wasn't exactly the success they were hoping it would be. That being the case, a third movie in the franchise failed to ever get going, but there's still hope. Though Tron 3 is dead, a reboot may still happen, with Jared Leto taking over in the lead role. Now, director Joseph Kosinski reveals that Leto's involvement actually goes back a long way and says that the movie is sort of just sitting right now.

Joseph Kosinski, who's been promoting his latest movie, Only The Brave, was asked about the status of the rumored Tron reboot. While not giving us a lot of hope that we're going to see the movie arrive in theaters anytime soon, he did further confirm Jared Leto's involvement and revealed that he almost appeared in Tron: Legacy.

Why David Fincher Is Right And Wrong About Marvel

Neil Calloway asks whether making movies for Marvel is what directors want…

David Fincher has become the latest director to stick his oar in and have a slight pop at Marvel studios. Nothing surprising there, it’s sort of his job to fly the flag for grown up drama and it’s certainly his job to get the word out about his new Netflix show. It won’t harm Marvel Studios at all; at the moment it looks like nothing will damage that juggernaut.

It’s sort of what indie film-makers do now; slag off comic book movies, and retain the moral high ground in a way that only a man who used to direct Paula Abdul and Madonna videos can. Of course, there’s a reason we should listen to David Fincher when he talks about young directors and the dangers they face when helming a big film; he’s been there.
