Rosie O'Donnell spoke out about the onslaught of criticism lodged at her following remarks she made about Lindsay Lohan during a "Today" show appearance earlier this week.

On Tuesday's "Today" show, host Matt Lauer asked O'Donnell to share her thoughts on Lohan playing Elizabeth Taylor in an upcoming Lifetime movie. O'Donnell said that she felt "very sorry" for Lohan and that she "needs a lot of help." O'Donnell added that "she's had a lot of trouble doing every single movie" and "is not in a place to work."

O'Donnell's comments created a firestorm online. Lohan responded to O'Donnell's remarks later that day. She said O'Donnell's comments were "so intrusive" and suggested the former talk show host form her opinions when "she meets someone face to face."

On Wednesday, O'Donnell responded to Lohan's statement and said that she has met her. "I did meet her when she was young and doing 'The Parent Trap, »

Sandwiches with Gary Oldman

21 April 2012 4:05 PM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

In 1987, the actor wasn't keen on theatre audiences eating chocolates

In 1987 I met Gary Oldman backstage at Chelsea's Royal Court, where he was playing a corporate raider in Caryl Churchill's Serious Money. Oldman provided tea and cheese sandwiches, then let me watch his makeup being applied.

"Mentally I'm not in London at the moment, I'm in North Carolina working on Nic Roeg's Track 29," he admitted, Cheshire cheese crumbling on to his battered corduroy trousers. "This morning I discovered a shooting schedule in the mail. I'd been hoping the scene in which I assault Theresa Russell would be in week six, but it's the first scene on the first day."

Prick Up Your Ears, in which he played Joe Orton, was shortly to be released, and he explained how he'd "spent many an evening in curry houses drinking Guinness" to look "older, fatter and queenier", whereas to portray »

By Zachary Swickey

Jack White has been rather busy lately preparing for the release of his first proper solo album, Blunderbuss, on April 24, and his newest endeavor will be streaming a concert live online, which will be directed by legendary actor Gary Oldman (of all people).

The program is going to be the first episode of the third season of the “Unstaged” series put on by American Express, which pairs top music artists with world renowned filmmakers. Oldman will be filming White’s much anticipated concert at Webster Hall in New York City on April 27 (9 p.m. Est), which will be broadcast on Vevo.

The concert will be an album release show of sorts since Blunderbuss will finally hit stores just a few days before the performance.

The “Unstaged” series from American Express has been a huge hit online. The live series has attracted more than 70 million streams with past performances from Coldplay, »

The love for the Nsfw-quality of Tromeo and Juliet not withstanding, you guys are getting a little predictable. As with last week, three holdovers in the top five and two new ones enter. If you want to see something else, get over to our YouTube channel and start exploring.

The Bard gets Troma-tized. The story’s the same, but Troma adds all the toilet humor, explicit sex scenes and gratuitous gore that old Will thoughtlessly left out of his version.

Jack Hill on The Big Doll House

Jack Hill recalls the making of his mega-hit, the Roger Corman/Cirio Santiago jungle prison flick that started the avalanche of busty-broads-behind-bars pix that packed the drive-ins throughout the 70s.

Sid & Nancy and The Apartment Blu-ray Reviews

28 February 2012 5:03 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Fox has released two of the most romantic anti-romances of all time on Blu-ray: Sid and Nancy and The Apartment. Both show the negatives of dating, and the headaches that come from love, which sometimes include being arrested for murder. Billy Wilder does career best work (which is saying something) with Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacClaine and Fred MacMurray in The Apartment, while Alex Cox creates some of his most indelible imagery with stars Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb in Sid and Nancy. Both are well worth checking out on Blu-ray and our reviews follow after the jump: C.C. Baxter (Lemmon) is climbing in corporate business. All his supervisors love him, and he’s only been at the job for a year. There’s a catch, though. The reason that he’s a rising commodity is because he allows three of them to use his apartment at night to entertain »

Gary Oldman: from Sid to Smiley: the rollercoaster story of a true British great

9 February 2012 4:06 PM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Hailed by John Hurt as the 'best of the bunch', Oldman is a working-class hero acclaimed for his acting and directing

Gary Oldman returns to London this weekend in the role of prodigal son, the wayward talent brought in from the cold. He arrives from California to find a landscape very different from the one he left in the early 1990s.

The fiery social-realist BBC teleplays that provided an early calling card have bitten the dust. The cult of the raw-boned working-class British performer has been largely replaced by a roll call of Etonians and Harrovians: a rash of Redmaynes, Hiddlestons and Cumberbatches. And so, at the age of 53, Oldman touches down like some disreputable Rip Van Winkle, a reminder of times gone by. All of which makes him more striking – and arguably more necessary – than he was before.

A Classic Sid Vicious Love Letter To Nancy Uncovered

7 February 2012 10:04 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

If we sifted through your old drawers and boxes and published all the love letters you wrote at 20 years old, chances are there would be some embarrassing phrases.

And what if we went back even further? A likely treasure trove of "Do You Like Me? Check Yes Or No" letters would rain down from the attic, heart-dotted i's and terrible poetry abounds.

If you're Sid Vicious, the former bassist for the Sex Pistols and one of the world's most renowned punk rock musicians, your love letters are apparently pretty straightforward. At least the one recently published by Letters of Note, a blog that highlights past correspondences.

In his letter, which can be read here in full, Vicious writes a list of things he loves about his then girlfriend, the punk groupie Nancy Spungen, on a piece of torn-out notebook paper.

5 Quotes from Film Independent's Conversation with Gary Oldman

6 February 2012 9:30 AM, PST | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Friday night, Film Independent hosted A Conversation with Gary Oldman at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Oldman's 1990 crime noir State of Grace was shown on the big screen, curator Elvis Mitchell interviewed the actor, and the night concluded with a screening of the political thriller The Contender from ten years later.

Oldman spoke for nearly an hour on everything from the ever-changing physicality in his roles, to actually running through real fire with Sean Penn in State of Grace, to Malcolm McDowell influencing his decision to become an actor. It was a great opportunity to hear a man with one of the most varied careers in modern Hollywood history talk about his craft, his experiences directing his 1997 film Nil By Mouth, and much more.

They didn't allow photos or recording of the event, but I managed to snag a few choice quotes from Oldman during his discussion. I'm »

Gary Oldman’s Jersey Shore Recap: Tinkle Tailor Snooki Uti

3 February 2012 8:10 AM, PST | TheFabLife - Movies | See recent TheFabLife - Movies news »

We are smart, most of the time. And also we like serious movies every once in a while. But despite Gary Oldman’s Oscar nomination, we’ve kind of been avoiding Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Just didn’t seem like our thing. Until now. The actor appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night and gave a dramatic reading of an official synopsis of last night’s Jersey Shore. Which was definitely one of the grossest episodes of the show we’ve seen in a while.

Now, Oldman is definitely not your typical highbrow British actor — Sid and Nancy proved long ago that the guy can do gross. But he can put on a posh voice like nobody’s business, especially when saying, “While dancing in a club, Snooki accidentally pees on herself. She sprays perfume on herself and calls it a sure shower.” We love the way the words “JWoww »

You could hear a collective cheer from the film world when Gary Oldman's Oscar nomination was announced last week. To celebrate, Wnyc Radio is hosting a free retrospective of six of Gary Oldman's most famous films. The screenings, 2 per night from February 6 through 8, will end with Focus Features' Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, where Gary Oldman will be present for a live Q and A after the film to discuss the role of George Smiley, which finally secured him a nomination. In addition to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, the other famous Oldman films screened in the series will be Sid and Nancy, JFK, The Contender, Bram Stoker's Dracula and Prick Up Your Ears. It's hard to believe that this is the first time that Oldman has been recognized by the Academy. Just like the character of George Smiley, the legendary Brit has tackled many famous figures, both real and fictional, »

The 1986 cult classic that tells the incredible but tragic story of Sid Vicious and his drug-addicted girlfriend Nancy Spungen gets a Blu-ray release for the first time. The appeal of the story and the fact that it is a great film has earned fans over the years, but this is hardly a sympathetic tale for either lead character.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Sid & Nancy’

11 January 2012 9:13 PM, PST | Destroy the Brain | See recent Destroy the Brain news »

Shortly after Repo Man (which still has no Blu-Ray release scheduled for North America), Alex Cox followed up his cult classic with a biopic about Sid Vicious. Instead of the sensationalism of the punk scene or how influential the Sex Pistols were to punk, Cox decided to focus on Vicious and his junkie girlfriend Nancy, an American who was visiting London at the time they met, and their descent in a drug induced downward spiral towards the end of their short lives.

The Film

Sid Vicious (played amazingly by Gary Oldman) is the bassist for the British punk band Sex Pistols who meets American groupie/junkie/drifter Nancy Spungen (Chloe Webb). While initially blowing her off, something in him takes an interest to her and once Sid and Nancy team up and start shooting up heroin together, they begin to rely on and confide on each other. Blu-ray Review: ‘Sid & Nancy: Collector’s Edition’

9 January 2012 12:05 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – When I interviewed Tomas Alfredsson, the director of “Let the Right One In” and “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy,” he told me a wonderful story about Gary Oldman watching daily footage of himself on the set of “Tinker” as his character, George Smiley, fried an egg in his robe. Exciting stuff. Gary turned to Tomas and said, “I used to be Sid Vicious.” See what he meant by that with the Collector’s Edition of this 25-year-old film.

Blu-ray Rating: 3.5/5.0

There are only a few people in the history of rock ‘n’ roll that can accurately be called forces of nature more than mere musicians — Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Robert Plant, the people who changed their art not by attempting to do so but by being honest to their own vision. Sid Vicious didn’t set out to change music by basically inventing punk, but that’s exactly what he did. »
