Phillip Chandler: Like Phillip Marlowe, we now saw the world for what it was: cold and bitter. Sad thing was, me and Marlowe had become infected by the disease. We were angry and vengeful and all we wanted to do was get back at the world, to make 'em all pay for what they'd done to us.

Not quite as much fun as it sounds, but regardless a must see for b movie buffs
29 January 2011 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

There's trash, and then there's interesting trash. If you spent a lot of your childhood walking up and down the aisles of your local video store then you've probably seen your share of both. So many films that have since been largely forgotten eventually find an audience when they catch the eye of hardcore film buffs like myself. There have been many rip-offs of classic films that deserve to turn to dust, but then there are those special ones that are far too out there and amusing to ignore. 'Mad Max' has been imitated numerous times, but 'Radioactive Dreams' may have been the first attempt at a parody of post-apocalyptic films. Maybe it's not a totally successful one, but if cheesy low grade cinema is your cup of tea it's worth a look.

Pros: Won't win any awards for great acting, but everyone has fun and really get into their roles. Cool and exciting score. A treasure trove of camp value. Fast-paced. Impressive make-up effects. Good production design for such a low budget effort. Some inventiveness.

Cons: Mishmash of ideas from better movies. Pretty dated. Some serious plot holes. Attempts at humor are occasionally amusing, but usually end up falling flat. Albert Pyun does OK with the action scenes, but otherwise his direction is bland.

Final thoughts: When this movie is over you may be scratching your head, but if you like this kind of stuff you shouldn't be too disappointed. There was definitely some imagination that went into this film and you can tell everyone involved had fun making it. Hard to find today since a DVD has yet to be put out, but worth the search. How could you not like a movie that pits two guys raised on old detective novels against post-nuclear punks on bikes?

My rating: 3/5
