This film is actually a remake of the 1945 John Garfield flick "Pride of the Marines" (check for it on IMDb for details). "Pride of the Marines" was based on the true story of Marine Al Schmid, a war hero blinded at Guadalcanal. They changed the names of the characters and updated it to a Vietnam war context, but those who saw the wonderful original will particularly recognize the last 15-20 minutes of the film, which follows the original scene-by-scene. The original was better, of course, but this made-for-TV version is worth a glance, especially for fans of Richard Dean Anderson or Valerie Bertinelli.
