"The Magical World of Disney" The Leftovers (TV Episode 1986) Poster

Anne Seymour: Aunt Winifred

Quotes

  • Aunt Winifred : [Max visits his aunt at her mansion]  ... You smell like peanuts. Where have you been, to the zoo?

Max Sinclair : It was a long drive out here. I stopped for a sandwich.

Aunt Winifred : To what *catastrophe* may I credit this visit?

Max Sinclair : I'm sorry you feel that way. My work takes a lot of time.

Aunt Winifred : *Six years* of being involved with that foolishness. You didn't bring any of those...

Max Sinclair : Children? No; you've made it *painfully* clear how you feel about those young people

    [under his breath]

Max Sinclair : whom you've never met.

Aunt Winifred : Good. No need pretending, then.

Max Sinclair : ...I need to arrange a private loan. I'd like to run Hillsburg on my own, the way it ought to be run.

[There is a crash from outside the study]

Thorndike : Not to worry! I'll fetch another tray!

Max Sinclair : ...Have you noticed that Thorndike's cataracts are back? He needs professional care, medical attention; and I think he's long overdue for a pension.

Aunt Winifred : There's nothing wrong with that man. He's lazy, that's all. Like all servants.

Max Sinclair : He's *eighty years old*, that's what he is!

Aunt Winifred : And not a very good eighty, if you ask me... Stop scratching and twitching!

Max Sinclair : I've got hives... Do I have to *beg* you? Time's running out. I've never come to you for help before. But I don't have any other family!

Aunt Winifred : My heart bleeds for you, Max. I never approved of your chosen profession of chasing tarnished rainbows! If you want to save the world, go do it... but not with my money, or my blessing! Now, if that's all you've come for, I bid you good day.

  • Heather Drew : ...Max, it seems that someone has had their sights on Hillsburg for quite some time now. And get this: Gladstone has been acting as the agent for the property. He stands to get a very sizable chunk if he can push this deal through. How many times have I told you this worm couldn't be trusted.

Max Sinclair : Who would do such a thing?

Heather Drew : Somebody by the name of Winifred DeWitt.

[Max rings off; shortly thereafter, he barges into his aunt's study during a meeting]

Max Sinclair : *Out!* All of you, get out! I need to speak with my aunt alone.

Aunt Winifred : These people are on my payroll, not yours! I'm the one who gives the orders in this house!

Max Sinclair : Then *you* tell them to leave! Now!

Aunt Winifred : Gentlemen, if you please...

    [the others depart]

Aunt Winifred : How dare you barge in here, smelling like a goat and braying like a donkey!

Max Sinclair : I had no idea you were so treacherous: conniving behind my back for a whole year; taking the side of some corrupt politician against *your own nephew*!

Aunt Winifred : Who came in here the other day on his knee for a loan?

Max Sinclair : That loan wasn't for me. It was for six young children, so they'd have a decent home to grow up in!

Aunt Winifred : Look out your window, Max. There's an industrial settlement encroaching on your land! Your home is the only holdout around here.

Max Sinclair : And so you, of all people, reached out and grabbed it!

Aunt Winifred : If you want to play the game, you have to make a bid.

Max Sinclair : You're wasting your breath; that's your world and your game, not mine.

    [He walks out]
