1856 Nikola Tesla, famed inventor and futurist is born in the Austrian empire. He's later played by David Bowie in Christopher Nolan's The Prestige (2006) but isn't it strange that he has never received his own major biopic given his fame and eccentricity and pop culture relevances (bands named after him, characters based on him, etcetera)?

1871 Marcel Proust, French novelist is born.

1925 The "Monkey Trial" in which a man is accused of teaching evolution in science class, begins in Tennessee. It's later adapted into a famous play and the Stanley Kramer film

53 years ago today: Ringo Starr’s sad tambourine moment
The Beatles’ first single, “Love Me Do,” was recorded 52 years ago today at Emi Studios on London’s Abbey Road. That day, Sept. 11, 1962, was the beginning of years of Ringo Starr’s coldness toward producer George Martin, and here’s why: On that first single — which hit No. 17 on British pop charts and later topped the U.S. charts — Starr was relegated to the tambourine. Martin had a session drummer play on the famed track. Other notable Sept. 11 happenings in pop culture history: • 1966: The Rolling Stones performed “Paint It Black,” “Lady Jane” and “Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby” on the season premiere of “The Ed Sullivan Show.” Guitarist Brian Jones wore a cast on his left hand, which he broke in a fall in Tangier. • 1974: The first episode of “Little House on the Prairie” aired on NBC. • 1977: The Atari 2600 video game console was released. • 1977: At the 29th Primetime Emmy Awards,

'Pixels' (2015) Movie Review

Even as an Adam Sandler/Kevin James-vehicle, Pixels deserves to be more inspired. The arcade-loving, '80s-centric action-comedy transitioned to the big screen from Patrick Jean's inventive world-domination-by-8-bits short film wields the fine set pieces, tech resources and token-required games to earn a top score. But Sandler and his team don't even attempt to advance to the next level, constantly drawing on the comedian's trademark sophomoric cheat codes to hastily produce what's essentially the poor man's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, global-annihilation movie. Make no mistake: this is a Happy Madison production through-and-through. Minus extensive pratfall jokes with James or unnecessary Rob Schneider or Steve Buscemi pop-ups, almost every check mark from the Sandler production list is marked. Cheap insults directed towards one physical trait from different supporting charactersc Check. Sandler getting the out-of-his-league girl (in this case, Michelle Monaghan) because he's our main slubby do-gooderc You bet.

Downton Abbey's Phyllis Logan appeared as love interest Lady Jane, while Dudley Sutton played Lovejoy's friend Tinker and Chris Jury his assistant Eric Catchpole.

“Saturday Night Live” Picks New Weekend Update Anchor, “Duck Dynasty” Ratings Sink Further and a Big “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Spoiler

News

Marvel made a big announcement about the future of Mike Peterson (J. August Richards) on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. It’s a big spoiler, so I’ll let you decide if you’ll click on the link. I love the concept, if not the specifics.

Access Hollywood talked with Finn Jones about the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. Sadly, he says, “There’s not enough hot gay sex for Loras this season.” I’m going to sit in a corner where I will think about Daenerys dispensing justice with her dragons and Lady Olenna dropping wit bombs until I’m excited about the new season.

Come on, HBO, who is going to fill Lafayette’s shoes once True Blood ends?

Adrianne Palicki will be appearing in a story arc on NBC’s upcoming dramedy About a Boy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
