HUD - a Norwegian classic
hudariansen-126 January 2007
This is truly a Norwegian classic. There are many people that have seen this film and found it boring. It was made in 1986 and it was the most expensive film ever made. When I first saw this film I was thrilled and very excited. It is by far the best movie I have ever seen. The film is about incest on a small Norwegian island. Vibeke Løkkeberg plays the role as a young woman and she is living a life knowing that her stepfather has given her a child. The child has not been baptized and the narrow-minded society on the island is bullying her. Her stepfather and the priest demands her to marry a rich newcomer and baptize the kid, but she refuses.

The dark inside of white houses
georg-klammt-46-3711639 November 2022
A small, costal trading post, embedded in the grandiose Norwegian landscape, a small island with its deep secrets. A girl loosing her beloved father, a stepfather continuously misusing her, fathering a child which doesn't talk and financial problems are creating a setting leading to a different view about the life within these picturesque white houses than our romanticism will give us.

Great pictures, light - influenced also by Edward Munch, a plot so unbearable as the theme suggests with an even more painful end to it, a careful orchestrated ensemble of characters make this movie special, and very rewarding to watch - when excepting a good amount to afterthoughts needed.

Probably one of the most boring films ever made
Gothmog-135 January 2001
If you haven`t seen this "masterpiece" consider yourself lucky. It`s a classic norwegian tragedy, but with Vibeke Løkkebergs unique boredom. Here you can have 25 minutes with a woman standing in front of a boat. to quote Monthy Python: this is a wine for staying away and avoiding.
