• Continuity: During the game when Everett Flatch cuts his shoulder open, he can be seen on the court after Coach Dale benches him.
  
  
• Continuity: During the first practice, after Coach Dale dismisses two players from the team, there are some drills with five players, then a two man passing drill with six players, followed by a drill with five players again.
  
  
• Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Once the tournament has begun, Coach Dale and Myra go for a walk in the woods. As they are walking, fall harvest corn appears to be visible in the background, but the tournament is played in March. The corn has been picked. The tassels and ears are gone, however the corn stalks aren't mashed to ground the way modern harvesters leave them. This is more in the style that corn was left after picking 50 years ago.
  
  

• Factual errors: Established etiquette for displaying the United States flag when hung vertically is to have the blue union on the uppermost left - several times in the movie it appears with the union on the upper right.
  
  
• Continuity: When Coach Dale first arrives in the principal's office, his tie is alternately neat/untidy between shots.
  
  
• Anachronisms: In the basketball scenes at the State Finals, the edges of the backboards are padded. Backboard padding wasn't added until years after the movie setting.
  
  
• Anachronisms: In the high school pep rally, the shot of the sousaphone player shows him using a Conn (brand) mouth piece, the design of which wasn't made until the 1970s.
  
  
• Continuity: In the final game with the score 16-8, Jimmy scores a basket (making the score 16-10) and the scoreboard reads period "2". When Jimmy scores again seconds later, you can see the scoreboard reads period "1".
  
  
• Anachronisms: The final game depicts a scoreboard more electronic than the mechanical clocks and numerical flip-cards used in the 1950s.
  
  
• Anachronisms: In the Hickory Gym, you can clearly see where they pulled up the tape of the modern free throw lane to make a 1950s-style lane.
  
  
• Continuity: During the championship game, footage (although shown at a slightly different angle) of the same alley-oop layup made by Jimmy Chitwood is shown on two separate occasions. The first instance occurs with about 4:00 left in the game (as seen on the scoreboard a play or two after the shot in question) and the second, identical shot occurs after a steal by Walker (#14 on Hickory) and makes the score South Bend 40, Hickory 38.
  
  
• Continuity: During the regional game against Linton, Hickory is down 33-37 at a timeout. Moments later, the score is 42-48 for Linton, then just later than that the scoreboard shows 31-36 for Linton.
  
  
• Errors in geography: During the montage scene of Hickory's winning streak, a scene shows the team bus being led through Hickory by police escort. The police car in the scene has "Wabash County Sheriff" on the side. Based on Hickory's opponents throughout the movie, the fictional town would be somewhere in southwest Indiana. Wabash County is in north central Indiana, approximately 150 miles away.
  
  
• Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Early in the film, when Coach Dale dismisses two players, it is said that Hickory has 64 boys in the high school. Later in the film, during the state final radio broadcast, the announcer says that total enrollment for Hickory is 64. However, in Indiana HS boys basketball enrollment is considered based on the number of students eligible to play. Therefore 64 boys and 64 students would be correct.
  
  
• Continuity: When Coach Dale is talking to Jimmy outside, Jimmy is shooting baskets, and his jacket is on the ground. When Coach Dale walks off, it shows Myra watching him from the school, but Jimmy's jacket is nowhere to be seen.
  
  
• Anachronisms: The seats in the Butler University field house did not have multi-colored seats in 1952.
  
  
• Anachronisms: In a scene showing the school pep band, there is a black wood piccolo being played. A high school or student of that time would have owned a metal (silver) piccolo, not one made of wood, and certainly not one with a wood headjoint, as shown.
  
  
• Factual errors: The Huskers opponent for the playoff game in which Ollie hits two free throws to seal a victory is incorrectly labeled as the Linton "Wildcats". In real life, Linton is the Miners. The game was supposedly played in Jasper, whose mascot is indeed the Wildcats.
  
  
• Continuity: As Merle is hitting the game winning shot with the "Picket Fence" play, the location of his defender switches between shots. In one shot, the defender is attempting to block the shot from the front. In the other shot, the defender is attempting to block the shot from the back.
  
  
• Anachronisms: High School basketball season runs from November through March (including playoffs). Yet in several of the outside scenes some trees are sprouting fresh green leaves. This would not be the case in Indiana during that time period.
