Trivia

According to Jon Danziger at the website 'Digitally Obsessed', "the word back in the day was that Mandy Patinkin was originally slated to play the [lead male] role [of Mark Forman], but somehow got tainted by too much contact with [Carl] Bernstein [Nora Ephron's ex-husband who the character is based on], and wanted to make the character more likable; [director Mike] Nichols quickly snuffed that out, and brought in a last-minute replacement, his leading man from Carnal Knowledge (1971)...Jack Nicholson". Goofs

When Rachel begins a tape recording of her life with the baby, she identifies herself as "Rachel Samstat". There is no reason for her to use her maiden name, and in the rest of the movie she uses her married name. See more »

Quotes

Mark Forman: He has an unlisted address.
Rachel Samstat: What are you talking about?
Mark Forman: Oh, well, it's the latest thing.
Rachel Samstat: What kind of person has an unlisted address?
Mark Forman: I'll tell you what kind person. The kind that doesn't want to be dead. The kind people are trying to kill all the time.
Rachel Samstat: Why are you angry at me for?
Mark Forman: I'm not angry at you.
Rachel Samstat: Then what you shouting at me for?
Mark Forman: Because you're the only one that's here.

All time favourite romantic drama!
6 December 2004 | by (Borås,Sweden) – See all my reviews

I can watch this movie over and over again and will never get tired of it.Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson at their best! I originally loved the book as well.

The ups and downs of a marriage juggling carreers, pregnancy, adulterous spouses, social events etc is really brought up in a masterful but still truthful way.

Streep was actually pregnant for real in the movie. The subtext she brings out in her acting and all the little details just make you love her more and more.

Her culinary tricks makes you run for your notebook.I actually get so hungry for Carbonara whenever I watch this movie.

It is full of tears and laughter and you can't help loving it.

I take this movie to my heart forever.
