Stevie Ray Vaughan provides guitar work in this film, which is part of the original music. His brother, Jimmy Vaughan, plays guitar on the song "Tough Enough" (by the Fabulous Thunderbirds), which is one of the most prominent songs in the film.
The park scene was filmed in Beaver, Pennsylvania. The film crew built the gazebo especially for the film, and left it as a gift to the city, where it remains today.
Despite the use of popular songs "Tough Enough" from The Fabulous Thunderbirds and "Don't Get Me Wrong" from The Pretenders, no soundtrack was released.
As of 2012, it is the only film Ron Howard has directed for Paramount Pictures, whose television division produced "Happy Days", on which Howard starred for seven seasons. Paramount would, however, acquire the international rights to "A Beautiful Mind" when they purchased DreamWorks in 2006.
