Louisa Mellor Jul 1, 2016

Not every artist is happy to have their song featured in a particular TV show or film. Here are 17 times the rights were refused...

It's not only political campaigns that inspire musical artists to exercise the power of veto on the use of their songs. For reasons of finance, reputation, ego, taste and more, the following TV shows and films weren't able to secure the use of the recordings they originally sought...

This Express piece quotes an Empire Magazine interview with Martin Scorsese’s long-time editor Thelma Schoonmaker in which she relates how the original plan was to have Frank Sinatra’s original recording of My Way play over the end credits of modern gangster classic Goodfellas instead of the Sid Vicious cover that was eventually used.

Sinatra would never let Marty use his music,” explains Schoonmaker, “which is too bad because Marty may »

Mike Huckabee Campaign Pays $25K to Settle With ‘Eye of the Tiger’ Songwriters

27 June 2016 8:04 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Mike Huckabee is still paying for his failed presidential campaign. The former candidate has been ordered to pay $25,000 for using the Survivor hit song “Eye of the Tiger” at a political event last year without the band’s permission, CNNMoney reported. Huckabee played the triumphant song — best known as the theme for “Rocky III” — at a rally he held for Kim Davis, the controversial Kentucky county clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Inside the Office of ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ Showrunner Nahnatchka Khan

9 June 2016 9:30 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Don’t call it clutter — it’s “placed clutter,” jokes “Fresh Off the Boat” executive producer Nahnatchka Khan, about her well-stocked office on the first floor on the Fox lot. “It’s so stressful doing a TV show week after week, that I think that when you come in you just want to be reminded of things that are fun,” she says. So her workspace — which serves as the hub for the “Fresh Off the Boat” writers — offers many clever toys to keep her colleagues entertained. Yes, there’s an actual writer’s block — it’s just a block of wood labeled “writer’s block” — on her coffee table. “We’re here to have fun and make comedy, so we don’t take ourselves too seriously,” she says.

Cannes 2016: The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki review

23 May 2016 1:19 PM, PDT | CineVue | See recent CineVue news »

★★★★☆ The winner of this year's Un Certain Regard prize, The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki is Juho Kuosmanen's chronicle of a Finnish pugilist. A unique and beautiful boxing movie shot on 16mm in black and white, it's like Wild Strawberries meets Raging Bull - though the bull isn't so much raging as in love. Olli Mäki (Jarkko Lahti) is a humble baker, an affable and resourceful man who seems a million miles away from the ferocity and Eye of the Tiger attitude you'd normally associate with boxing. Indeed, we first see him escorting a girl, Raija (Oona Airola), to a wedding he's totally unprepared for.

Former Mystic Falls resident Nina Dobrev didn’t exactly bring her A game to Thursday’s Lip Sync Battle.

The Vampire Diaries vet channeled the competition, dressing up as former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow for what can only be described as a lackluster performance of Omi’s “Cheerleader.”

Her humdrum effort just wasn’t good enough to compete with eventual winner Tebow, who did his best to make Rocky Balboa proud with the Survivor classic “Eye of the Tiger.”

Is there any doubt that Tebow was more deserving of the “prestigious” Lip Sync Battle belt? »

"The Vampire Diaries" alum Nina Dobrev is taking on football quarterback Tim Tebow in this week's "Lip Sync Battle" face-off, and it's promising to be quite a hot, sweaty match. So far, Spike TV has teased fans with two preview videos, one showing Tim channel his inner Rocky Balboa for Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger," and another showing Nina channel her inner Marvin Gaye for "Let's Get It On."

Marvin was never this sexy, though, and Nina even works her charms up and down Tim's body, perhaps hoping she can distract him before his second battle. Tim really brings his A-game to his Rocky performance, and that video shows a glimpse of Nina in football gear, which gives us a hint to her second battle.

Here are the two previews:
