Quality Australian supernatural thriller

The more down under fright pictures I see, the more I like them and find them sorely undervalued. This is a good example of a fairly little known film that is pretty dang ace. Starting with a freaky dream and continuing into an initially not too surprising but increasingly interesting paranormal chiller. Though some reviews on this site call it a slasher, I would say this is more of a mystery with slasher elements. Killing is fairly minimal, as is bloodshed, thought there is a little bit, and one pretty cool gore gag. Suspense is the name of the game for the most part, with a couple of nail biting stalk sequences and a general feeling of eerie tension. In the second half there are some great twists and the film all comes together nicely. The ending could have definitely been a bit stronger and more bloodshed or killing would have helped but there is some good female nudity to help out. The acting is for the most part highly effective, with Tessa Humphries a decent lead and Briony Behets good as her mother. The music is suitably creepy, keeping things going even when the film is slightly slow. All in all, I heartily recommend this, its atmospheric and surprising, has some fine jolts and an overall feeling of class. With a bit more grisliness it could have been even better but it still makes a great impression. Also recommended is Long Weekend, by the same director and with Briony Behets as one of the two leads.
