Super Bowl Ad Review: Why Madison Avenue Chose Pop Over Politics

Super Bowl ads come in many varieties. Some are spicy. Some are salty. This year, many were just sweet.

Most of the advertisers in Super Bowl Lii veered away from the politically-minded or socially-conscious commercials for which the event has been known in recent years, cowed by an audience all too eager to vent dissatisfaction on social media and, perhaps, suffering from cultural ennui as the result of a frenzied news cycle that has left the nation polarized and weary of considering new controversies and issues.

“I think people are relaxing and want some good fun,” said Andy Goeler, vice president of marketing for Anheuser-Busch InBev’s Bud Light, one of the event’s biggest and most prominent sponsors. “To add to that enjoyment is critical.” Bud Light ran a series of humorous spots from the independent agency Wieden + Kennedy that played up a “Bud Knight” and riffed on “Game of Thrones.” Its ad phrase

Yep, That ‘Crocodile Dundee’ Sequel Was Really Just an Australia Tourism Promotion
For the last couple weeks, Danny McBride has been teasing a reboot of the hit Australian film “Crocodile Dundee.” Instead, it turns out to be a giant hoax for a Super Bowl ad by Australia’s tourism board. The ad started like a usual trailer, with McBride playing Mick Dundee’s long lost son, Brian Dundee, and Chris Hemsworth playing his sidekick, Wally Jr. But by the end, it turns out that it’s not a movie, and all the scenes in the various teasers dropped over the last week are just an excuse to show off Australia’s attractions. But, to satisfy “Dundee” fans,...

‘Dundee’ Sequel Turned Out to Be a Super Bowl Ad for Australia Tourism — Watch
Every year, a Super Bowl commercial gets fans excited about a thing that isn’t really what it purports to be (looking at you, “Ferris Bueller 2”). This year’s example was a supposed “Crocodile Dundee” spinoff starring Danny McBride as the title Australian’s son.

After a fortnight of viral marketing, the culmination of the McBride/Chris Hemsworth faux film was an ad during Super Bowl Lii for Australia Tourism. The two actors were a part of a story that followed “Brian Dundee” through alll the best the Outback had to offer.

The ad was directed by Steve Rogers, who’s been behind the camera for notable ads for Old Spice, Adobe, and Nike, among others.

Watch the Full Dundee Super Bowl Commercials with Danny McBride, Chris Hemsworth

Watch the Full Dundee Super Bowl Commercials with Danny McBride, Chris Hemsworth
Super Bowl 2018's commercials might be better than the actual game. Case in point: The fictional Dundee movie Tourism Australia trailer is a stroke of genius. For the last few weeks we've been teased with what we thought was going to be a real sequel to Crocodile Dundee, but instead it was revealed that it was actually a commercial to promote tourism to Australia with a huge A-list Aussie cast that would make most major motion pictures jealous.

Danny McBride is Brian Dundee, Mick's American son, and he's traveling through the dangerous Australian Outback to find his dad. Mick is missing in the outback and McBride's hilarious Brian is traveling with Chris Hemsworth, who is an expert in the Australian Outback. Before Hemsworth was revealed to be in the commercial and people still thought it was a real movie, many pointed out that Hemsworth would be the better pick. But

Deadpool 2 Trailer Will Not Drop During Super Bowl, So Stop Waiting

The trailer for Deadpool 2 was rumored to drop during today's Super Bowl game, but writer Rhett Reese has confirmed that it, sadly, will not. The trailer is still expected to debut on Valentine's Day and then play in front of Marvel's Black Panther on the big screen, starting on February 16th. It's surprising that Deadpool 2 won't have some kind of presence at the big game, an event that seems tailor-made for Wade Wilson to make an appearance. Maybe there will be some kind of Twitter message from the Merc with Mouth to escape paying $5 million for a 30-second ad during the Super Bowl.

While Deadpool 2 writer Rhett Reese says that there will not be a Super Bowl spot for the movie, he did tell fans not to worry. It's not completely out of character for star Ryan Reynolds to get on social media and do some promotional work for Wade Wilson.

Margot Robbie Gets in on that Fake ‘Crocodile Dundee’ movie

Considering all the big names in the fake Crocodile Dundee movie you had to know that Margot Robbie was going to get in on it eventually. She plays a character that’s tougher than any she’s played thus far, except maybe that of Harley Quinn. A lot of people are wishing at this point that this movie was real and not just a giant fake out since to see this many stars in a movie is kind of like a big treat. And learning that it’s fake is like having that treat cruelly ripped away just as you’re about to get

Keanu Reeves Surfs a Motorcycle (Because Why Not?) in Super Bowl Ad — Watch
There will never be anyone like Keanu Reeves is something we already knew, but apparently, he feels the need to repeat that to himself from time to time… while surfing on a motorcycle.

In this ad for Squarespace set to premiere on television during Sunday’s Super Bowl, Reeves finds his inner zen while standing on the top of a motorcycle — a stunt which Squarespace assures us he did perform himself.

The motorcycle in question is from Reeves’s own motorcycle company Arch Motorcycle, which used the Squarespace service to build its own website.

“There’s something about Squarespace that’s really accessible yet sophisticated,” said Reeves in a statement. “The design and functionality share a similar ethos to Arch Motorcycle. When I was approached to make this commercial, we were already using the platform, which makes it a really organic fit.
