Dave Grohl's Ice Bucket Video is Your New Prom Queen

19 August 2014 11:56 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

I'm sorry, but if you're going to participate in the Als Ice Bucket Challenge, you have to put on a twist on it. Unless you're Oprah or Bill Gates, you owe it to us to show off more than your ability to get soaked while a camera rolls. Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters understand this need and givesus perhaps the most elaborate and dramatic Ice Bucket Challenge yet. Dave and Taylor Hawkins really commit. I won't spoil it -- but make sure to take notice of the last two people he challenges. A brilliant little foreshadowing of what's to come. »

The 10 most insane things that happened on 'Top Model' this week

18 August 2014 7:00 PM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

After 20 seasons, one billion nutty contestants (true fact: if laid end to end, they’d stretch all the way to Modelland and back), gallons of haircut-related tears, myriad delightful variations on “I’m not here to make friends,” countless instances of Tyra Banks randomly slipping into one of her four accents (“vaguely British,” “almost French,” “Oprah,” and “daaa-yum, girl!”), and challenges involving roaches, tarantulas, clouds of pheromone-crazed bees, and Fabio, saying “that crazy thing on America’s Next Top Model” is sort of like talking about suicide in Buffalo—it’s redundant.

And yet! While I would under no circumstances »

Yes, The Ice Bucket Challenge Is Raising Tons of Money And That's Good

18 August 2014 3:26 PM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Being annoying is okay if it makes a difference.

Let's talk about ice bucket backlash.

As of today, the Als Association announced it has received $15.6 million in donations, a dramatic increase over the $1.8 million raised at this time last year, owed almost entirely to the Als Ice Bucket Challenge -- better known as those videos on your Facebook and Twitter feeds that Just. Won't. Stop.

Oprah took the challenge. Chris Pratt did it, too. Lady Gaga did it wrong. And yes, we did it as well along with our very own Nancy O'Dell.

Watch: Et's Nancy O'Dell Takes the Ice Bucket Challenge

By this point, we all can admit, it's getting a little old. Some more cynical critics of the challenge ask -- is this charity or narcissism? What happens when the next good cause needs a viral stunt, and it fails to take off? Are we all just making ourselves feel better by pretending to do something »

Even Weird Al Succumbed to the Ice-Bucket Thing

17 August 2014 10:50 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Everywhere around Hollywood, celebrities are dumping buckets of ice water on their heads to raise money for Als: Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Oprah — even Kerry Washington. No one is immune, not even Weird Al, who knows an inescapable virus when he sees one. We appreciate that he has a concept, doesn't belabor the point (it's under 30 seconds), and keeps it weird, which means he's basically negated the need for all other celebrities to do this. Did you hear that, all other celebrities? »

Chris Pratt and Robert Downey, Jr. take the Ice Bucket Challenge

16 August 2014 8:41 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

NFL teams have done it. Mlb teams have done it. The United States Men's Basektball Team has done it.  Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates have done it.  By Saturday afternoon, the Ice Bucket Challenge in support for Als (better known as Lou Gehrig's disease) had reached a cultural tipping point.  Yes, Oprah had joined the fray. But, not only Oprah, "Iron Man" himself Robert Downey, Jr. (a relative newcomer to social media) and a certain "Guardian of the Galaxy" named Chris Pratt. You can watch Pratt's attempt to ditch the bucket by drinking other versions of "ice" here:   (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Post by Chris Pratt.     You can check out Robert Downey Jr.'s dousing here:   Hemsworth! »

In fact, he says "getting married at 28" was his best mistake ever. "Most people probably think I regret it because I ended up getting divorced," he tells O, The Oprah Magazine's September 2014 issue, "but it helped me learn that sometimes I think I know more than I actually do." The former couple wed in 2007 and split in 2009. The "She Came to Give It to You" singer, 35, was awarded primary custody of sons Usher V, 6, and Navivyd, 5, last summer. Since then, family has »

What would Tameka say?

It's no secret that Usher, 35, has had a rocky relationship with his ex-wife Tameka Foster, 43, but in a new interview for Oprah's O Magazine, he actually calls getting married at 28 years old his "best" mistake.

"Most people probably think I regret it because I ended up getting divorced, but it helped me learn that sometimes I think I know more than I actually do," he candidly tells the magazine for their September issue.

Usher and Tameka were married in 2007 in Atlanta, but were divorced by 2009. They have two sons together -- Usher Raymond V, 6, and Naviyd Ely Raymond, 5 -- and were involved in a highly publicized three-year custody battle following their split.

Most recently, the two faced off in the courtroom again in August 2013. Tameka filed a request for an emergency custody hearing seeking temporary primary custody after their eldest son Usher V was hospitalized, after he accidentally »

Film Review: ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’ Not Worth the Trip

8 August 2014 11:39 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – “The Hundred-Foot Journey” is as manufactured and flavorless as a frostbitten Lean Cuisine. However, as the impresario of a Michelin-starred Restaurant in the south of France, Helen Mirren implores her staff that food is not an old tired marriage, it is a passionate affair.

It’s ironic that the film containing that speech is such a limp, forgettable piece of Oprah-endorsed uplift with not one genuine emotion to be had.

Rating: 2.5/5.0

Director Lasse Hallstrom aims for the sort of light middlebrow European feature that goes down easy. He throws a little bit of everything into the mix, a dash of tragedy here, a pinch of love story, and the swelling music that goes along with those tugs on the heartstrings – but instead of creating a symphony of surprising flavors, his concoction never quite comes together.

At the center of it all is the Kadam clan, an Indian family »

‘Hundred-Foot Journey’ Producer Talks Food, Family and France

8 August 2014 9:45 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

What ingredients go into a movie that’s part foodie pic and part heartwarming ode to family? A dash of Steven Spielberg, a soupcon of Oprah Winfrey, and a heaping helping of actors — including Helen Mirren and Om Puri. Stirring the batter are director Lasse Hallstrom, who last lovingly shot French pastries in “Chocolat,” and first-time feature producer Juliet Blake, who, up to now, has been more accustomed to working with crocodiles and Muppets.

A producer at National Geographic who was formerly president of Jim Henson Television, Blake hadn’t ever produced a theatrical feature when she came across the novel “Hundred-Foot Journey” when it was still in galleys and was inspired to option it. The 2010 Richard Morais novel about the culinary rivalry between a staid French restaurant and a boisterous Indian establishment across the road was inspired by the author’s friendship with the late producer Ismail Merchant, an accomplished chef and cookbook author. »

Friday Am Update: Playing at 2,651 locations, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles earned an estimated $4.6 million from late Thursday shows. Among Summer 2014 releases, that's ahead of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ($4.1 million), Maleficent ($4 million) and Lucy ($2.75 million). While those aren't all apples-to-apples comparisons*Apes opened at 10 p.m., while Turtles started at 7 p.m.*it still suggests that the movie will have no problem earning over $40 million this weekend (Paramount is now expecting mid-to-high $40 millions).Meanwhile, Into The Storm opened to $800,000.Forecast: On what should be another busy August weekend, the latest big-screen version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will attempt to take first place ahead of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. That could be easier said than done. Marvel's last three movies have all dropped between 56 and 58 percent in their second weekends, and there's little reason to expect Guardians will have a steeper decline than that. The Hundred-Foot Journey Review

6 August 2014 9:21 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

2014 has already been quite the cinematic year for foodies, with such scrumptious titles as Chef, The Trip To Italy, and The Green Inferno (what, I don’t judge cultures!), but after indulging in all those treats, I walked into The Hundred-Foot Journey feeling a bit stuffed. Hoping that Indian spices could kick this Oprah/Steven Spielberg production up a few notches, Lasse Hallström’s adaptation of Richard C. Morais’ uplifting novel becomes a smidgen too pedestrian when compared to Favreau and Winterbottom’s offerings – even though Hallström’s film boasts a saucy British delicacy in Dame Helen Mirren. An unexpected third act twist does inject a bit of healthy vibrancy into an otherwise overly-produced story of self-discovery, but everything comes together in a rather vanilla mixture once the credits role. Unlike the bursts of flavor highlighted throughout each succulent dish, this journey is rather filling, a bit undercooked, and lacking »

Hillary Clinton vs. Stephen Colbert: Battle of the Names

Hillary Clinton beat Stephen Colbert at his own game when she made a "surprise" appearance on The Colbert Report on Tuesday night. Colbert introduced Clinton's new book, Hard Choices, which was published on June 10, and began to poke fun at the politician, calling the book "656 pages of shameless name-dropping." "I just don't buy any of this. There is no way on earth one woman can be in so many places at once," he said. No sooner had the comedian made the snarky comment, than the former Secretary of State appeared on stage amidst chants of, "Hillary, Hillary!" "Hillary Clinton," Colbert exclaimed incredulously. »
