29 December 2010 9:10 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

In person, Barry Pepper is a soft-spoken man with an intense stare and a firm grasp on the state of politics in America. In the new film, Casino Jack, about the rise and fall of Superlobbyists Jack Abramoff and Mike Scanlon, Pepper plays Scanlon, a Capitol Hill smooth talker who worries more about his chi and feng-shui than about the ethics and morals of his particular place in politics. While he couldn’t be more different from the character he plays in this film, Pepper talked to CinemaSpy about how he came to understand the choices of the man he played and about his own feelings on topics like the death of the film’s director, George Hickenlooper and his own beliefs in the current political climate.

Now that Casino Jack is out, what are your thoughts about director George Hickenlooper’s passing?

It’s an incredible shock to all of us. »
