When Mother Watts is resting in the chair after her sinking spell, the phone rings and Jessie Mae takes a puff of her cigarette and then puts it in the ashtray when she gets up to answer the phone. Then when you see her answer the phone, she is again holding the lit cigarette in her other hand.
While Mother Watts is at the bus stop you see the bus approach. The head-sign says Montrose, which is just west of downtown Houston. If you look at the terrain, it is sloped not true rolling hills, but still somewhat hilly. Houston is flat as a board. These hills are reminiscent of the Dallas/Irvine area.
