A Goan native returns to his now-derelict, palatial childhood home, recalling his family's interpersonal drama during the end of Portuguese rule.

Circa 1961 Dona Maria Souzasoares lives a wealthy lifestyle in Portuguese-occupied Goa in post-independent India along with her husband, Ernesto; a daughter, Silvia, her husband, Lucio, and their two daughters Aurora and Anna. Also living in this household as a maidservant is Milagrenia, the illegitimate daughter of Ernesto, who was sired due to one of his many indiscretions with a variety of maidservants. When Ernesto passes away, Maria is beside herself with grief and seeks the help of Milagrenia to speak with her late husband's spirit, but instead ends up summoning the vengeful spirit of Vijay Singh Rane, who was beheaded at the behest of Ernesto's maternal grandfather in place of Kustoba Rane. While Silvia is overly anxious to get Anna married to Erasmo, who is studying medicine and has a very bright future, but is afraid of losing him if Maria delays the marriage. This does not happen, and Maria consents to the engagement, and it is on that fateful day when everyone finds out that Anna and Milagrenia are pregnant. Anna has three suitors, Erasmo, Ruiz Pereira, the paternal nephew of Dr. Pereira, and Leon Gonsalves, a freedom fighter fugitive, but it is unknown who may have been responsible for Milagrenia's plight. Ruiz Pereira in his forties arrives in Goa after 24 years and is surprised to see he development,as he left Goa when Indian government was about to take over from Portuguese.Ruiz reaches mansion of Donna Marie which is currently in ruins but years back she lived with her huge family.Flashback revels her granddaughter Anna is about to be engaged to Erasmo against her wishes but it is kept on hold as Donna Marie's husband Ernesto suddenly passes away.Donna Marie tries to contact with Ernesto by seances with means of contact being her maid Mailagrin.A younger Ruiz then is in love with Anna and wants to marry her but on other side seduces Milagrin,Leon a revolutionary whose in love with Anna secretly hides in their mansion with permission of Donna Marie.But due to fear from Portuguese government Leon is asked to leave and Anna gets engaged to Erasmo but on the same day its found that she is pregnant.The family is left in limbo and has no where to go as the Portuguese rule in Goa is about to come to an end.—alex.mjacko@gmail.com
