Two very different movies from the crazies at Troma Studios will screen Friday night March 16th at The Way Out Club as part of our third monthly Troma Night At The Way Out Club. We’ve decided to move it back to Friday night and we’ve got a great Free double feature.
“Saving the world, one sucker at a time”
First up this month is Lollilove, a riotous 2004 mock documentary about charity and the homeless directed by and starring St. Louis’ own Jenna Fischer (from The Office) and produced by and costarring her then-husband and fellow St. Louisan James Gunn. Fisher and Gunn play well-meaning Hollywood rich kids who decide to prop up the homeless by handing hobos and drunken derelicts lollypops. Not just any suckers, but ones with designer inspirational wrappers. LolliLove is a bit of an odd release for Troma, because it’s not a blood, boob, »

Troma is many things to many people. Scratch that. Troma is either one of two things to some people. If you grew up watching classic Troma flicks like The Toxic Avenger, Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD, or Tromeo & Juliet, you probably have a soft spot for the low budget film company headed by icon Lloyd Kaufman. If, however, you missed out on these classics and instead just picked up some of the more recent offerings, you probably think Troma is a pile of shit. I have a lot of respect for Troma. I’m a big fan of Lloyd Kaufman and I’ve read three of his “Damn Movie” books. History should remember him in the same vein as Roger Corman – a low budget businessman with a vision. Few people have had a bigger impact on the world of independent film. Even I must admit that in recent years, the offerings from Troma have not always been fantastic. Much »

Oddities dives into the weird world of strange and extraordinary science artifacts through the eyes of the proprietors of Manhattan’s Obscura Antiques & Oddities. In 2009, the progressive metal band Reason (then known as Obsequy) recruited Cage singer Sean Peck to do lead vocals on their song “The Toxic Avenger” during the recording sessions of their debut Thoughtcrime Ep. The song was written after Reason guitarist/vocalist Alex Fidel read a book by Toxic Avenger creator and Troma president Lloyd Kaufman, describing a story of bands giving their music to Troma for free for the love of the movies. Lloyd Kaufman and the gang over at Troma have announced that they have picked up the world wide rights for Drew Bolduc and Dan Nelson’s sleaze-fest The Taint. President of Troma Entertainment and creator of The Toxic Avenger Lloyd Kaufman describes The Taint as:
I cannot exactly describe what happened in The Taint because it would not be appropriate for a normal publication or television review. However, I can tell you that it will be a long time before I even consider placing a penis in my mouth again.
I’ve seen The Taint, and believe me it’s not for the faint of heart – it’s misogynistic, bizarre, gory and it’s full of men waving their flaccid penises around! Check out our Nsfw review here, and the official synopsis is below:
The water is tainted. The Taint poisons the minds of men. It turns them into raging misogynists. »
