Meechum was the family name in The Great Santini (1979), which focuses on the son (Ben Meechum) who's a high school basketball player, based on the life of Pat Conroy. This is also a reference to Pat Conroy himself, because in real life, he later played college basketball as a cadet at the Citadel, hence the opposing team's name "Cadets".
