Storyline

Bombay-bred Narain goes to a village, where he meets and falls in love with a village belle, Yashodra. She also is attracted to him, and both get married. After their marriage, both go to live with Narain's parents, brother, and sister-in-law, Lalita, and her son, Sonu. Yashodra gets close to Sonu, and starts to spend all her time with him. This raises some concerns with Lalita, which results in some acrimony. Tragically, Sonu passes away, leaving Yashodra devastated and depressed. She gets pregnant and gives birth to a baby girl, but cannot get Sonu out of her mind. Her depression gives way to insanity, as she keeps on seeing Sonu in every child, and as a result she is institutionalized. Narain has taken to alcohol in a big way and drowns his sorrows and frustrations day and night in a drunken stupor. As a result, his daughter is adopted by Lalita and his brother, without knowing who her real parents are. Years pass by, her daughter, Asha, has grown up and is herself a mother of a ... A Magnificent Film!!!!!
20 October 2005 | by See all my reviews

This is one of the best films I have seen from the 80's. Jayaprada does a remarkable job in the film playing both the mother and daughter. This film proves her talent and what a great actress she really is. Of course with Jayaprada her lead supporting actor is one and only Jeetendra. His performance in the movie was also great. He plays the role of the husband and later on the father. The movie starts off showing how Asha (Jayaprada) is leaving with her son from India to move to the states with her husband. However before she leaves her guardians make her visit her uncle (Jeetendra) to get his blessings. When Asha reaches her uncle's house she realizes that her guardians are not her real parents but her uncle (Jeetendra) is her real dad. She also discovers that her real mother Yashoda (Jayaprada)is mentally ill and is currently residing in a mental institution. To find out the rest of the story you have to watch the film. The story line is different from the ordinary and you will definitely enjoy it.
