After iron man Drago, a highly intimidating 6-foot-5, 261-pound Soviet athlete, kills Apollo Creed in an exhibition match, Rocky comes to the heart of Russia for 15 pile-driving boxing rounds of revenge.
Ever since his match with Clubber Lang, Rocky Balboa has a peaceful life. And now he and former champion, Apollo Creed, enjoy good times and are now the best of friends. But Rocky's peaceful life as a boxer gets paused after a match Apollo went into. Unfortunately, Creed fought Ivan drago, a 6'5" Russian who has never lost a match, and sadly, brutally murders Apollo in the ring. A funeral is held and times start going downhill fast. Now, in order to restore honor, Rocky challenges Drago to a match and must beat him for sweet, bitter vengeance.
The Russian-language lyrics to the "State Hymn of the U.S.S.R." that opens Rocky's fight with Drago, actually include the Stalin-era refrain: "Znamya Sovyetskoye, Znamya narodnoye, Pust ot povyedye k povyedye vyedyet!" (Soviet banner, popular standard, from victory to victory let it lead.) Nikita S. Khruschchev had ordered it changed to "Partiya Lenina, sila narodnaya, nas k toryestvu Kommunistva vyedyet!" (Party of Lenin, strength of the people, to the triumph of Communism let it lead us.) See more »
After the Creed/Drago match, when there is a montage of newspaper clippings about Rocky deciding to fight Drago, the first clipping if you look closely at the article and read it... you'll notice that the article isn't even about Rocky, but that it is actually about the world series. See more »
We always have to be in the middle of the action 'cause we're the warriors. And without some challenge, without some damn war to fight then the warriors might as well be dead, Stallion. Now I'm asking you - as a friend - stand by my side this one last time.

This is easily the best Rocky film. It is probally the most inspirational Rocky movie because of the way he trains for the fight and he is also attempting to avenge the death of his best friend. And the way he causes the Russia crowd to turn and route for him is just great. The boxing match in this movie was a far better fight seen than the other rocky movies.
