I'm probably making way too big of a deal over one small bit of advertising art for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, but I love seeing this stuff. This new bit of art just popped up on JoBlo earlier today. Given the shape, I'm guessing this is billboard art that you'll see up soon if you live in Los Angeles or New York. It's definitely some eye-catching artwork, so bravo to everyone at Disney for coming up with this. I'm sure they're having a heyday with Alice in Wonderland, imagine the possibilities that graphic designers have with this! Anyway, since the last trailer got kinda buried, I'm wondering if everyone is still excited to see this?

Paul Reubens is currently rehearsing to play his iconic character, Pee-wee Herman, in a new Los Angeles stage production. The show is in part a revival of his original stage show from the early 1980s and his multiple Emmy award-winning children's TV show, Pee-wee's Playhouse. The stage production was initially slated to open in November but was delayed until January so that it could move to a bigger venue.
If you're a fan of Pee-wee's Playhouse but don't live in Southern California, there's still hope that you'll be able to see the crazy characters again.
Reubens, as Pee-wee, recently shared details with MTV about his plans for a new movie. He said, "It's already done, the script is already fully written; It's ready to shoot." Pee-wee's Playhouse: The Movie will be a family movie and, unlike Pee-wee's Big Adventure and Big Top Pee-wee, it'll

Paul Reubens, the man behind Pee-wee Herman, has finished a new script that will see the character returning to cinemas.
Reubens played the character through two series of the TV show, and also starred in Pee-wee's Big Adventure, which was director Tim Burton's debut feature.
Reubens said of the new project: "It's not really the real world, it's Puppetland. On Pee-wee's Playhouse, on the television series we never left the playhouse, we were always inside the playhouse. The movie is all out of the...

If you haven't heard yet, Pee-wee Herman, aka Paul Reubens, is mounting a quite a spectacular comeback. He just opened a live production called The Pee-Wee Herman Show in Los Angeles and apparently has other big plans. Although we saw Pee-Wee make his way to the big screen in 1985 in Tim Burton's Pee-wee's Big Adventure (and again in 1988 in Big Top Pee-wee), he's got another movie in the works. In fact, the script is done and it's ready to shoot. Pee-Wee explained to MTV that they decided to make a family-friendly movie based on his classic Saturday morning show, potentially to be called Pee-Wee's Playhouse: The Movie.
"It's already done, the script is already fully written; It's ready to shoot," Pee-wee said. "It's ready to shoot tomorrow. Oh wait, not tomorrow! I'm not available tomorrow. I had a conflict, forgot." Yep, Pee-wee's back whether you like it or not.

The Pee-Wee Herman Show is back. Paul Reubens, who created Pee-Wee and played him on stage, TV and film between 1980 and 1991, is bringing his goofy-geeky man-child to the Los Angeles stage for a limited live-performance run at Club Nokia next month. "It's going to be really, really good! I swear!" Reubens said, wearing Pee-Wee's signature gray suit and bow tie, at a press conference today.
The full-scale stage performance, produced by Tony Award-winner Scott Sanders (Elaine Stritch: At Liberty) and directed by Alex Timbers (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) will revive the character Reubens first brought to life on stage in

Yesterday, we told you about our visit to the new Tim Burton exhibit at New York's Museum of Modern Art, but just in case you haven't checked out our full photo gallery yet, you might want to do so — and this means you, comics fans. Among the many pieces of awesome art from films like "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" and "Mars Attacks!" there are also a few pieces from Burton's "Batman" films and — here's the kicker — some art from Burton's never-made "Superman Lives" movie (famously set to star Nicolas Cage).
Check out this (slightly cropped) image of Brainiac from an unfilmed "Superman Lives" scene:

Think about the career of Tim Burton for a little while, and it makes a lot of sense for his work to receive a special exhibition at New York's Museum of Modern Art. From "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" and "Batman" to "The Nightmare Before Christmas," Burton's projects have always had a certain flair — and it's that unique element of his work that's receiving the spotlight in this new exhibit.
You can get an early peek at some highlights from the Tim Burton exhibit at MoMA (including some great, behind-the-scenes art from "Batman") by clicking on the photo below:

From MTV.Com: Tim Burton definitely has his own aesthetic: part goth, part whimsy, part just plain Burton. Throughout his career, he has established himself as the go-to guy for the strangely charming and bizarre.
Now, the man behind such classics as "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," "Beetlejuice," "Edward Scissorhands" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is being honored with a retrospective exhibit of the artwork connected to some of his most beloved films at the Museum of Modern Art in New York this winter. The Museum of Modern Art’s big upcoming retrospective on Tim Burton opens with a gala party tonight in New York, with Burton muses Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, and Disney chief Robert Iger expected to attend.
The exhibition, which runs November 22 through April 2010, will span Burton’s films -- digging deep into the Burton canon ("Pee-wee's Big Adventure"!) – as well as his work as an artist, author, photographer and illustrator.
The MoMA description of the exhibition, though, is a tad breathless, even for a Burton fan:

Last week, Disney kicked off a small viral with The Mad Hatter on Facebook who was leading us to some "treasure." As we quickly found out, his treasure was a series of three posters for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland that when put together would give us a good look at all the characters from the movie. The complete reveal took a lot longer than Disney expected, and although they didn't even reach their final goal, they just said to hell with it and put out the final poster anyway. So here it is, the complete triptych poster for Alice in Wonderland for your viewing pleasure. Click the photo or head to Flickr to see it in high res.

New Yorkers get a lucky break in two weeks. Starting November 22 and continuing through to the end of April 2010, a career retrospecting Tim Burton exhibit will live at New York's Museum of Modern Art. The exhibit will consist of sketches, paintings, storyboards, puppets, props, costumes and moving image galleries from Burton projects known and unknown. Fans won't want to miss such a rare opportunity to look closely at the legendary filmmaker's process as brings his out-of-this-world ideas together.
For shame if you don't know who Burton is. He's behind an incredible number of bona fide modern classics: "Edward Scissorhands," "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure," "Beetlejuice," "Batman" & "Batman Returns"... a lot of noteworthy stuff. Today's Daily TwitPic actually comes from MoMA's Twitter feed. They posted an image yesterday, a sneak peek at a few of the items which will be incorporated into the exhibit. Check it out after the jump.

This new trailer for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, presented by SpikeTV, doesn't deserve as much hype as it's getting because it's basically a remix or rehash of the original teaser trailer first put out in July. That said, since it technically is a brand new trailer, I'm featuring it anyway, especially because the hype for this movie is (or rather was in July) through the roof. I'll be much more excited once we get to see an actual full-length trailer with finished visual effects and a shot of Alan Rickman as the Caterpiller - that is what I need to make me go crazy with excitement for this new Alice in Wonderland. So anyway, give this a shot.

Visiting a friend in Omaha this past weekend, I saw The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. at the lovely Film Streams theater. I'd never seen the one-and-only Dr. Seuss-scripted 1953 classic, and the spangly print certainly didn't disappoint. Mostly, though, it got me thinking about everything that's wrong with Where the Wild Things Are. Both are sui generis translations of maverick beloved children's authors to the screen in ways that could be "scary" or "inappropriate" for children. And there the similarities end.
Even among surreal, culty kid's films (Return to Oz is my favorite, but Babe: Pig in the City and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure come to mind as well), The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. is singular. A source of dismay for Dr. Seuss (who compared the reviews to an on-set accident where all the children vomited at once) and a financial calamity (losing over $1 million), this weirdest of

The Fall season always means two things -- it's time to wrap up marathon training and start planning Halloween costumes. Edward Norton and Paris Hilton are on top of those tasks, respectively. Norton's planning on running with some Kenyans in New York on November 1st, while Paris is hard a work costume hunting, but you'll have click on down to see where she's shopping.
Also today, Alyssa Milano emphatically denied that she is pregnant, so rumor-mongers back off. Read on to check out what she said, as well as where John Hodgman has been reading about Juggalos, what the weather is like on the "Eclipse" set and what Paul Reubens would have looked like in your high school yearbook. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for September 29, 2009.

Pee-wee Herman's ballsy bid for a comeback launched last night with the debut of a Twitter feed (one lucky follower will receive a Picturephone call from Pee-wee today), and a visit to The Jay Leno Show that can only be described as strange -- just not the right variety of strange. The star of the brilliant Pee-wee's Big Adventure and equally brilliant children's show Pee-wee's Playhouse emerged in his gray plaid suit looking oddly of-the-moment -- Mr. Herman wouldn't be out of place strutting through the halls of Sterling Cooper assessing workplace productivity.

In the two weeks it has existed, "The Jay Leno Show" has mostly been a study in stale stand-up and retread bits from Jay's run on "The Tonight Show." But so far his lineup of guests has been pretty interesting. He lucked into his conversation with Kanye West last week, and last night he welcomed another former MTV Vma star to his gigantic set: Pee-Wee Herman. Paul Reubens, the man inside Herman's head, has used the Pee-Wee character sparingly since his arrest for indecent exposure back in 1991, but he's bringing the persona back for a stage show in Los Angeles starting in November.
Reubens, who became an icon when the movie "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" and the Saturday morning show "Pee-Wee's Playhouse" became gigantic hits, sat across from Leno in his desk-free interview set-up to joke about his abstinence ring, his early experiences with the theater and how confused he always

Pee-wee's Big Adventure is one of my all-time favorite movies. I don't care what embarrassments happened with Pee-Wee later in his career (and I'm referring to Big Top Pee-wee), I can go back to that movie at any time and still laugh hysterically.

Paul Reubens plans to resurrect his Pee-wee Herman character for a live stage show, it has been reported. The 56-year-old actor will reportedly appear as his child-like alter ego for The Pee-wee Herman Show in Los Angeles in November. According to the Los Angeles Times, the performance is a reimagining of his 1980s theatrical production that was also a special for HBO in '81 and led to his '85 feature film debut Pee-wee's Big Adventure. The franchise also includes children's programme Pee-wee's Playhouse, which aired on CBS from 1986 to 1990. "I've put part of him away for a long time, but part of him has always been here with me," he said. "I think it will be (more)

Pee-wee's Playhouse: Paul Reubens and Friends Returning

Actor Paul Reubens is bringing his trademark character, Pee-wee Herman, and his playhouse full of friends back to their roots. Unfortunately, unless you live in Southern California, you may not be able to see them.
The Pee-wee Herman Show was a Los Angeles stage show in the early 1980s. It resembled the Saturday morning kids show that followed but the original concept was more of an adult parody of classic children's programming. Following appearances on late-night TV, Reubens' Pee-wee character became so popular that he was given his own family-friendly feature film, Pee-wee's Big Adventure.
The success of the movie paved the way for the Pee-wee's Playhouse TV series. Budgeted at $325,000 an episode, the show garnered 22 Emmy Awards during its five year run. Aside from Reubens, the series features Phil Hartman, Laurence Fishburne, S. Epatha Merkerson, Shirley Stoler, George McGrath, Alison
