The struggle between Nature and Civilization in four episodes of great strength
TV series of four episodes . Faithful adaptation of two novels by Emilia Pardo Bazán ( " Los Pazos De Ulloa" and "Madre Naturaleza" ) . The plot revolves around the Marqués de Ulloa, a chieftain of rural Galicia in 1880, and a set of characters whose lives will be altered by the visit of a priest.
The central theme of the play is the opposition between nature and civilization, so they are natural forces that succeed; This topic builds with other side : politics and ancient customs , religion and witchcraft; hunting and passion against feelings primarily maternal love. And in turn, these secondary issues are served motifs that play an important role in the structure of the work function: degradation, brutality rural; decadent nobility , represented by the Marquis and to a lesser extent, by his family in the city of Santiago ; chieftaincy as a sign of the prevailing political corruption; the law of force and cunning , represented by Primitivo ; official , wealthy power, the Church a religious sense of idealistic character , played by Julian opposes. A religion is opposed by the side of the ancient forces of witchcraft "La Sabia" and their Wives , whose prophecies were all fulfilled. And finally, two reasons for the action triggers : Julian advises the marquis take lawful wife among his cousins to end the prevailing state of "savagery ' in the life of Los Pazos and Julian would also suggest that you choose Nucha Rita face . The latter will facilitate the outcome: Nucha is a sentient being , but weak , and can not adjust to life in Los Pazos , causing the triumph of the forces of nature.
It shows a crude and illiterate Galicia, where the esoteric plays an important role ( witches, witchcraft, a shaman at the same level of medical...) . I understand you want to give an image of profound Spain , but eating without cutlery , darting like hungry dogs for meat, or the mansion of the Marquis is about to fall, Charo López or not combing throughout the series seems excessive , because one thing is to be poor and illiterate and another not have a minimum of education and morality.
The first two episodes have strength, develop an interesting plot . The third outcome, weakens . The fourth almost spare. Especially striking Victoria Abril who at 27 seems very young , appearing either the character's age . However, knowing it is not credible that innocence is meant to give the character, especially in the fourth chapter that seems overacted .
