Fall Guy
12 October 2004 | by (USA) – See all my reviews

WARNING: SPOILERS

That would be David Berkowitz, who has now officially admitted that he was involved in a cult in 1977 and did not act alone in the Son of Sam murders. He may have killed no more than three, not the six he was convicted of. His associates chose him as the fall guy for the cops to blame. Notice when Martin Sheen goes over to his car parked on the street next to his apartment building and looks in the side window. The butt of a sub-machine gun is sticking out and than Sheen calmly opens the door and starts searching inside the car, all without a warrant. In the meantime, Berkowitz is upstairs in his apartment and probably watching the whole show from his window. Ten minutes later, he walks down to his car so he can be apprehended by the NYPD. As for the others who were involved with Berkowitz, they were never caught. This movie focuses more on the guy who brought him in than on the Son of Sam himself. Detective Ed Zigo's life is examined during the manhunt. Martin Sheen with his mustache does a good job portraying the big city detective, but the film delves away on some of the real life events in the case. For example, Berkowitz was apprehended in the summertime, not during the winter like the movie shows. Also, it happened at night instead of during day. For a TV movie, it's not bad but it could've been way better. There has yet to be a movie made about this case that nails down all the facts.

Score, 5 out of 10 Stars
