The movie is, in part, about the failure of a marriage of convenience due to adultery by both parties. The sex is implied.

There is one sex scene in the movie. The couple is mostly under the covers. The woman's breasts are almost completely obscured in shadow. This scene is brief.

There are several other scenes from which one would assume that sex was to follow, though not shown.

People protect themselves from animals with guns and, on another occasion, bullwhips. The incident with the bullwhips leaves marks on a woman's back.

Wine is a regular part of meals. Champagne is served at a wedding. Whiskey and brandy are used for relaxation. On a couple of occasions, people are clearly drunk.

Several of the characters are smokers.

There are three encounters with lions. At least two of them are a little scary.
