A seminal piece
20 March 2005 | by See all my reviews

Some would say the lack of budget, acting, story, equipment and ability would ruin a movie. Some might even say that using a very tired formula about the Cold War (and oh so blatant) would be rubbish. Some would say that a story that makes no sense is good. Some would even say that the lines "Hey Jayson, you look like you've seen a ghost" "I think I have" is stupid because the person in question never died or appeared to die or even got injured at any point. They might think it's just a cheap excuse to use an overused line to sound good.

To those people I say : How dare you

Jean Claude van Damme's career never went as high as this afterwards, it was all downhill (although some would argue that Streetfighter came close). Jason Stillwell was so good that he had to refuse offers later on from the makers of Blade, the Matrix, various Star Wars movies. Still, when you've been in a film this big where can you go from there. He decided to quit while he was at the top rather than fade away with lesser films. If anyone noticed, the REAL Bruce Lee is in this film. I don't know who that guy was in all those other films, but I know for sure this one was the real deal.

As for the story, it was a roller-coaster from start to finish. Friendship, love, gay sex, loyalty and black people were all discussed in this film which broke new artistic ground. To conclude, this film will spellbound and amaze. Anyone who hasn't seen it is missing out on a piece of culture that the whole world should share.
