  • Continuity: Picture jumps back on the wall after being knocked off when Fletch is thrown against the wall.

  • Continuity: Doctor Rosenpenis' stethoscope as he bends over to pick up the papers he dropped.

  • Continuity: Fletch looks at a picture of Sally Ann Cavanaugh as the mother turns the pages in the photo album. We see Fletch holding the picture and the album's pages aren't being flipped.

  • Continuity: A dent on the passenger door of one of the police cars chasing Fletch disappears.

  • Factual errors: When Fletch is getting a physical, there is a chest x-ray in the background which is hung up backwards. Unless of course, that particular patient had a rare congenital disease.

  • Continuity: When Fletch talks to the kid trying to steal the Alfa Romeo, there is a large stain on his cap. Throughout the entire car chase, the stain on his cap disappears.

  • Continuity: After Fletch breaks into the real estate office and is subsequently chased by the Doberman, he hurries to his car. You can tell by the glare that the driver's side window is up, but when the dog jumps on the hood, Fletch rolls up the window (which is now down).

  • Crew or equipment visible: Crewmember's hand visible at the right side of the screen next to Alan Stanwyk's body after he is shot.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Fletch is "quitting", his boss moves his mouth twice on the same piece of dialog between cuts.

  • Continuity: When Fletch and Alan Stanwyck are talking under the pier, Alan is wearing jeans in one shot. In the next shot, he is wearing the full suit, the jeans having been replaced with suit pants.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When the motorcycle cop yells for Fletch to "Pull over," his mouth does not match the words.

  • Continuity: When Fletch and Alan arrive at Alan's house to discuss their potential 'business' arrangement, the driveway is wet as the car parks. As they both exit the car, the driveway pavement is suddenly dry.

  • Crew or equipment visible: Right as Fletch is going upstairs in the Cavanaugh house, there is a crew member visible in the doorway to the right of the stairway.

  • Continuity: When Fletch confirms his flight at the airline counter, he is told he is confirmed on Flight 441. Later, when he is reading his letter outlining Mr. Stanwyk's plan, he says "Mr. Stanwyk boarded Pan Am flight 306."

  • Revealing mistakes: When Fletch takes a picture of the phony deed, there is no flash from his camera. Yet the picture he shows Mrs. Stanwyk has a flash visible in it.

  • Errors in geography: When Fletch is escaping from the shotgun wielding man in what is supposed to be Provo, Utah, right after his rear window is shot out, you can clearly see Palm trees in the background. Provo, Utah does not have Palm trees indicating the scene was shot somewhere else. Most likely southern California.

  • Continuity: When Fletch is "teaching" Mrs. Stanwyck tennis, a tennis ball appears and disappears in Fletch's left hand.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When we first meet the Underhills, he is arguing with the waiter. Mrs. Underhill calls her husband Tom. Later in the movie when Mr. Underhill is at Mrs. Stanwyk's cabana, he introduces himself as Ted.

  • Continuity: When 'Gordon Liddy' is talking with the two plane mechanics, around the time he burns his arm, a propeller plane appears and disappears behind the jet plane that they are working on.

  • Continuity: Gail Stanwyk mentioned how Fletch was physically similar to Alan. Fletch told Alan that it happened "last night, while we were in bed together". But it really happened a couple of days prior when Gail gave Fletch one of Alan's suits to get away from Underhill.

  • Revealing mistakes: During Fletch's dream of playing for the Lakers, we see a top down shot of him as he tries to drive the lane for a basket. At the top of the screen for a few seconds it is revealed that the court ends at half court and is therefore not a complete regulation NBA basketball court, and is instead a sound stage as opposed to a sports arena.
