As the Rest of The World Sees Tintin, We Comfort Ourselves With an Awesome Trailer and More

27 October 2011 2:30 AM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

Sure we understand that the holiday season is a big one for Us movie theaters, but why must you taunt us by opening the amazing The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn in virtually every other market first? Ah well, we will suffer through this torment with grace Until December 21st, and enjoy these wonderful features in our quiet Us corner.

We’ll start with a new trailer that knocked our socks off:

Here’s a terrific making-of featurette with Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, and more:

And here’s a longer version with some overlap from the featurette above, but a lot of additional info including a bit with Simon Pegg. Ignore the October release date, that’s for those lucky Europeans:

So, what do you think? Freakishly Great Movie, or Freakish Uncanny Valley? I’ve signed up for the Fandango Fan Alert so I can get my »

Box office preview: 'Cowboys & Aliens' takes aim at 'The Smurfs' invasion

28 July 2011 7:22 PM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

With the debt ceiling crisis still looming, this could be the final weekend before the entire American economy collapses in an explosion so magnificent that Michael Bay wouldn’t cut away from it for two whole seconds. Realizing that you may never have discretionary income again, Hollywood is offering three — three! — new major releases this weekend. One’s a genre mash-up whose title tells you exactly what to expect (Cowboys & Aliens), one is a TV-series adaptation whose title can be used as both a noun and a verb (The Smurfs), and one is a romantic comedy whose title, for reasons we may never know, »

Steven Spielberg Says ‘Jurassic Park IV’ Coming In a Few Years; New Photo From ‘Tintin’ and Comic-Con Footage Reactions

22 July 2011 12:51 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Various rumors have been going around when it comes to Jurassic Park IV for years and years, but the past month has seen some real movement happening on the sequel. In addition to Steven Spielberg reportedly meeting with screenwriter Mark Protosevich — who wrote the remake of Oldboy, which Spielberg was originally going to direct — about new ideas for the project, Jurassic Park III and Captain America director Joe Johnston gave a fairly detailed and confident quote on what would be done. In a lot of ways, it almost sounds like a reboot.

At today’s panel for Tintin at Comic-Con, Spielberg caught people’s attention by saying that not only is Jurassic Park IV coming, but it’s coming within the next two or three years. A big production (something this would almost certainly be) needs a lot of time with pre and post-production if they want a quality film, »

Your Opinion Matters: What Do You Think About Cursing in Movies?

1 July 2011 12:51 PM, PDT | kidspickflicks | See recent kidspickflicks news »

Michael Bay needs his mouth washed out with soap: everyone knows you don't curse in front of little kids. And, PG-13 or not, Transformers: Dark of the Moon does attract younger kids And is full of bad language... and I mean bad. The movie uses up its entire foul language allowance before the MPAA gives it an R rating.

From reading reviews from kids of all ages for the last 7 years, it seems kid critics have negative feelings about  movies with cursing. In fact, I've never read a review in which a kid positively recognizes the inclusion of cursing. Of course, some kids have mouths like sailors...maybe you're one of them?

Writers will include the bad words to give a movie "credibility." For instance, in movies with Steven Spielberg's involvement like Super 8 or The Goonies, 13 year olds using bad language feels like they've starting saying those words »

Paramount Gives ‘Super 8′ Early Thursday Release In IMAX & Select Theaters

8 June 2011 6:04 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

As I hinted at last night with debut of a fantastic new poster, Paramount is moving up the release of J.J. AbramsSuper 8 in select theaters, including all 239 IMAX locations. The promotion comes under the moniker of the “first-ever tweet movie sneak preview.”

All you have to do is head over www.Super8-Movie.com/Sneak and click either MovieTickets or Fandango. I’ve already checked out NYC and screenings begin at 11am on Thursday at Regal E-Walk. See your local listings if it is opening up near you. As a bonus, select theaters are offering free popcorn with any concession purchase at the shows.

I saw the film last night, and although I have a few nitpicks, as a popcorn summer movie, it works fantastically. We rarely get such a film that the entire family can not only see, but has the capacity love. I highly recommend checking it out starting Thursday. »

Kevin Costner: Where Did They Go Wrong?

26 April 2011 2:04 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

He seemed the epitome of the All-American Good Guy: Kevin Costner was the original King of the World in 1989, when he put his career on the line to make an (ugh) Western. A three-hour (ugh) Western at that, and not just to star in: he was directing for the first time. He gambled, won and became our new Gary Cooper. But what happened? When he’s not flitting in and out of marriages, he keeps showing up in the most random B-pictures (Mr. Brooks? The Guardian? Seriously? Were these supposed to be comebacks?), along with doing his part to clean the Bp Gulf spill with ocean-cleaning technology he’s been pouring money into for a decade.

Where’s the Kevin Costner we grew up with? Let’s take a look at his career.

A few days ago I did not to go to Area 51 and speak to "Paul" screenwriters/actors Nick Frost and Simon Pegg but I did attend the NYC press conference to talk about the film that opens nationwide tomorrow.Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite for the comedy adventure "Paul" as two sci-fi geeks whose pilgrimage takes them to America’s UFO heartland.  While there, they accidentally meet an alien who brings them on an insane road trip that alters their universe forever. Here is what they had to say about "Paul."How does 'Paul' compare to some of the other type alien movies that are out?Pegg: I think of all the alien films that have come out recently, and we do seem to be a part of a zeitgeist of alien cinema, I think that Paul is probably the only one who would pass you a joint rather »
