Special effects man John Stears claimed that he had been offered money by government agencies to simulate various things as depicted in the film.
Film debut of Angela Bassett.
In this movie, at about 30 minutes in, we see Posters for Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985). Brian Dennehy, who plays the hard-nosed cop Leo McCarthy in this movie played the main crooked cop, Teasle, in the first Rambo movie, First Blood (1982).

(at around 10 mins) When Rollie offers Micky (Cliff De Young) coffee, he corrects his name to Lipton. Rollie smiles and says "Well, then I suppose you want tea". Lipton is a well known brand of tea.
When Rollie is ambushed in the back seat of a car, the vehicle crashes through a billboard that has posters for the Code of Silence (1985). Orion Pictures, who made "F/X" also made that film.

(at around 9 mins) Posters for Zombie (1979) and Fade to Black (1980) are seen hanging up in Rollie Tyler's apartment in several scenes. Also, the film I Dismember Mama (1972) is mentioned (referred to by its alternate title 'I Dismember Mama').
