Jacobi extraordinary in RSC taping of complete play., 30 June 2000
10/10

This is, to my knowledge, the only complete presentation (three hours) of the five act play. The Royal Shakespeare Company is as always exemplary and Derek Jacobi's Cyrano is extraordinary. Right up there with the Jose Ferrer performance. Cusack's Roxanne is not as intelligent as it needs to be (why is this role almost always directed and acted incorrectly). Christopher Benjamin is an adequate though not outstanding Christian - and no way near pretty enough for the role. Pete Postlethwaite's Ragueneau is a sheer delight - a wonderful creation that holds its own with Jacobi's. The video of this production is available (according to Videohound) from Video Catalog and Turner Entertainment. Very much worth owning.
