They were five students with nothing in common, faced with spending a Saturday detention together in their high school library. At 7 a.m., they had nothing to say, but by 4 p.m., they had bared their souls to each other and become good friends. Trivia

While Maine North High School was no longer a fully-functioning high school at the time of filming, the school was in use as the Alternative Resource Center (ARC) for high schools Maine West (also in Des Plaines), Maine South and Maine East (both of Park Ridge, IL). Students that were a chronic disciplinary problem, considered to be unruly or disruptive to the learning process of others, would find themselves at Maine North every day, as an alternative to expulsion or other disciplinary measures. Maine Township still conducts the ARC, now in Morton Grove, IL, with a goal of providing a structured environment with positive reinforcement for appropriate behavior. See more »

One of the best movies ever
6 May 2003 | by (San Antonio, Texas) – See all my reviews

After reading some of the negative comments made about this movie, i decided to make some of my own. Yes, to younger viewers, this movie will appear to be outdated. The only thing "outdated" is the clothing styles and the music. It doesnt matter what year you went to high school or what school you even went to, there will always be a "criminal", a "jock", a "princess", a "nerd", and a "basket case". This movie is the best teenage movie, no matter when you are a teenager!
