Storyline

Classic tale of a girl named Alice who follows a white rabbit down a hole into Wonderland, where she can change sizes by eating and drinking and animals talk. After escaping the disturbing Queen of Hearts, she finds that she has ended up on the other side of the looking glass in Looking Glass Land and that there is a mind-created Jabberwocky after her. With the advice of a wise owl and royal chess pieces on her mind, she ventures home, vowing to grow up in this two-part movie which remains most faithful to the original stories written by Lewis Carroll. Trivia

This was Irwin Allen's last television movie. After finishing "Alice in Wonderland" Irwin Allen began production on his next movie of the week titled "Outrage". After Irwin Allen completed the "Alice In Wonderland" for CBS, he started planning a similar special using "Pinocchio" as the basis for a musical CBS-TV special two hour feature. He was in preparation and working on this project at his untimely demise. See more »

Goofs

The ending credits of both parts say (in order of appearance). In the part II Looking Glassland half, the movie starts with the Jabberwocky in Alice's house going after Alice, but the credits have the Jabberwocky placed after Humpty Dumpty. The Jabberwocky should of been the first in the credits as long as it's an order of appearance format. See more »

Fantastic production with the perfect cast!
1 March 1999 | by (Washington, DC) – See all my reviews

Yes, I saw this -- so did you! This is quite possibly the best version of Alice ever, and one of the rare versions that includes Through the Looking Glass. This film is so exquisitely done that I remember being both thrilled and terrified! (My mother had to tell me that the Jabberwocky was just a costume that was hung up in a closet before I could go to sleep...and then I was afraid of my closet!) The cast is ideal -- no one else could play the Caterpillar so well as Sammy Davis Jr., and only Red Buttons could be such a perfect White Rabbit! Of course, my copy was taped over (Mom's attempts to comfort me just weren't enough, I guess!), but I would love to see it again. Find it at your local video store if you can, or order it -- but if you plan to have your kids watch it, make sure they see it in the daytime, and NOT right before naptime or bedtime!
