(1985–1988)

Trivia

The pilot movie for the show is an adaptation of the novel "Promised Land", fourth in the series, which featured the first appearance of Hawk.
The firehouse Spenser lives in during the first season was also used in What's the Worst That Could Happen? (2001) and the Boston portion of "Real World, The" (1992).
The firehouse was also used by the Boston Fire Department until around 1984 as the home of Engine Company 10.
During season one, Spenser lived in an abandoned firehouse just off Charles Street, but filming there proved difficult and the BFD reclaimed the site at the end of the season. For seasons two and three, Spenser lived on the top floor of an old Charlestown apartment, at the base of Bunker Hill, the interiors of which were shot at the FilmWorks Studios in Brighton, Mass.
The "set" of the dark country/western bar was actually the main bar area of The Channel, the largest (at the time) nightclub in Boston. The lights were kept dim so as to help hide the club's stage and massive PA system.
