Candace Cameron Bure, Taylor Neff and Heather O'Rourke all auditioned for the role of Vicki.
Edie McClurg left the show during the third season to be cast in a full time role on Valerie (1986) (also known as "Valerie's Family: The Hogans" & "The Hogan Family"). During the last two seasons her character, Bonnie, was referred to off camera, and largely replaced by Brandon's sister Ida Mae, played by Alice Ghostley.
