November 1942. Young Norwegian Anne Eriksen returns to a small boarding-house in Dalsland, Sweden near the Norwegian border, where she has spent the summers during her childhood. When Anne and Evert is driving towards the Norwegian border with Björn in the back of the sled, Björn changes positions. When Anne first pulls back the rug and discovers that he is dead, he is flat on his back. When the Swedish soldiers later pull the rug back, he is face down.
