Storyline

Serial chronicling the lives of the residents of Ramsay Street in the fictional Australian suburb of Erinsborough. When the series began, it revolved around three families - the Ramsays, the Robinsons and the Clarkes, living at no. 24, no. 26 and no. 28 respectively. Nowadays, the scope of the programme is much wider and only one member of the original families remains in the street. The show reached a watershed in 1997 when the last remaining original character, Helen Daniels, died. The departure of her relatives and arrival of the Scully family marked the start of a new era for Neighbours. There's never a dull moment in Ramsay Street, and despite their many feuds, the residents will always - in the words of the show's theme tune - "be there for one another". That's when good Neighbours become c-grade television
2 September 2003 | by See all my reviews

Like many I have watched Neighbours since it first started when I was a kid and although I watch it nearly every day it's sad to admit it is past it's peak. Things started going pear-shaped since around 2000 after we lost Billy, Anne, Lance, Sarah Beaumont, Amy and eventually Paul and Joel. There seemed to be a real feeling of fun and togetherness until these guys left and then it fell flat on it's arse. Then they bought in the Hancocks as a replacement. What a success that was! Thankfully they couldn't afford to stay and left but it still seems disintegrated and formulaic now with most of the cast seeming nice but characterless and all much the same. It also seems to be nearly exclusively filmed in the same places and during the day now which takes away somewhat from the atmosphere. Get some new writers please! Or at least bring out the late 90's episodes on DVD so we can reminisce of Billy & Anne's eventful camping trip, Paul and Harold's debut as the ear shattering Tuba Electrica, and games of cricket out on the street.
