Season 1, Episode 1: Moonlighting (Pilot)

This is the pilot episode of the "Moonlighting" (_qv_) television series. Maddie Hayes, a wealthy former model, discovers one morning that her business manager has stolen all the money she has in the bank. However, it turns out that she still owns some non-liquid assets -- money-losing companies which were maintained as tax write-offs -- one of which is a detective agency run by David Addison. Maddie meets with him to inform him that the company is to be shut down, but he tries to persuade her to keep it open by convincing her that the detective agency can make money. To prove it, David brings Maddie into a murder case involving a mysterious wristwatch and four million dollars worth of smuggled diamonds.

Season 1, Episode 2: Gunfight at the So-So Corral

It's Maddie's first day as a detective, all excited, she walks in to find the place dead. The employs just sit there, there are no waiting clients and no ringing phones. When she goes to David telling him how this is hopeless and ready to close down the place, he lies saying they have a client coming in. He then runs to a neighboring agency and Davids a client out of their waiting room. The client is a dying man who wants "Blue Moon" to find his estranged son he has some things he would like to say to him, he also mentions that he might be involved in some shady business. As they go in search of his son the find that he is a contract killer. After they take themselves of the case, they meet the son and find out that he has been dead for a while. The "father" is the best contract killer around and the "son" is headed in that direction and wants to make it official by killing him, "dad" on the other hand knows the pros and cons of the business and wants to pass it on. The two end up in a showdown with Maddie and David in the middle.

A talk radio host is murdered on the air and David thinks it would be great for business if they solved the case. While investigating they find that him and the station manager's wife were having an affair, then they find that he faked his death and is still alive. The plot thicken's when the station manager is murdered.

When Ms. DiPesto has won a competition, she is allowed to join a Murder on the Orient Express (1974) inspired crime game in a train created by her favorite crime author. She is accompanied by Maddie and David to central station. Maddie and David miss to leave the train before it starts off and now have to stay on it since it won't stop for the next 48 hours. When a real murder happens, everybody is suspicious and the two detectives have to solve the crime.

When David's brother Richard shows up, he does not only seem to be a rich man, but also makes an impression on Maddie. While David has got to handle his jealousy, Maddie has trouble to pay back her $37 000 debt to the bank. When David is attacked by a stranger, who wants back his money, David realizes that all the money that his brother spends does not belong to him.

A mysterious woman appears in Maddie's and David's agency, who does not want to show her face. She wants Maddie and David to find her former lover, who is the reason why she can't show her face. The two detectives find this man, but find out on the next day that someone murdered him. Of course, the mysterious woman is their very first suspect.

Maddie learns where the accountant who took her money is and is determined to get it back, David tries to talk some sense into her, telling her he is in South America so her money is gone. She won't listen and hopes a plane, she imagines him feeling guilty and apologizing instead he maneuvers he out, and just when she thinks all hope is lost David shows up. With him they win, but if they won some other poor sucker lost, Maddie want's him to be the poor sucker. They get him in a little one on one, $100,000 to start Maddie puts up her house and car. When it comes to the moment of truth will she give up her night's winnings and walk away with her house, car, and dignity, or will she risk it all.

Season 2, Episode 4: The Dream Sequence Always Rings Twice

David and Maddie meet a client at an old nightclub to report to him on the case. While there they are told about a murder, the singer and an orchestra player fell in love and killed her husband, then they blamed it on each other and went to the chair saying the other on did it. David and MAddie discuss the murder each having a different opinion, David thinks she did it, Maddie thinks he did, David thinks Maddie is a sexist, Maddie thinks Davvid is an animal. When they go home they both dream up in black and white what happened in 1946. Maddie dreams of the singer and her husband, the fire had gone out of their relationship but they've remained friends and then the orchestra player arrives she is innocent, he seduces her, convinces her to get ride of the husband, he kills him, makes it look like an accident, then tells the cops she did it. David see's it differently, he came to the club just wanting to play, she had a bad marriage and he was her way out, she seduces him, gets him to kill her husband, then sends him off to fry.

Season 2, Episode 5: My Fair David

After Maddie walks in on a limbo contest in the office she bet's David he can't behave like a mature adult for a week. They get a client, a woman who's stepson has been kidnapped, and she want's to negotiate for the best deal. When they go to drop of the money they find her son as the kidnapper, to get the best deal for all three they don't tell the mother and the next day he is once again taken.

David and Maddie have different interpretations of his list and hold a contest over who will find his bride. Maddie's choice is all about substance, David's is all about looks. They send over both girls and let him decide. When looking for an answer they find he may have married both of them, investigating further only leads to more things that don't add up.

David gets tips from a prostitute (Toby) with a client named Jerry who talks in his sleep. It happens that Jerry is connected with organized crime, and talks about murders and other crimes that are about to happen. David and Toby make a deal about sharing the information and getting the award money from every case which Jerry talks about in his sleep. David becomes a very famous detective who solves murder cases. The whole thing works wonderfully for David; he has Maddie believing that he's the best detective in the world; until Jerry tells Toby that David is the next one to be murdered.

Now "Moonlighting" after too long with no new episode Rona Barrett, an 80's reporter goes in to get "The Straight Poop" apparently Maddie and David have been fighting and not speaking to one another. As she talks with Maddie, David, Miss Dipesto, and Mr. Viola they flash back to previous episodes to show examples of their statements and in the end they kiss and make up.

When she opens the door Viola is outside, together they find that the root of the problem is less para- and more normal.
