NBC chief executive Brandon Tartikoff wanted to lure Robert Blake back to television, but claimed in his autobiography that "in order to try to screw somebody, I probably screwed myself." At the time Blake approached Tartikoff with the idea for a series, Blake was being considered for the role of David Addison on "Moonlighting." Tartikoff gleefully snapped up Blake for "Hell Town," causing "Moonlighting'"s producers to settle on their second choice, an actor who had recently appeared on NBC's "Miami Vice" and impressed them - Bruce Willis.

Robert Blake as a priest with a punch (some items just write themseleves). Only Blake's world could include characters like Sister Angel Cake or a pool-playing dud called One Ball. Blake played the collared tough guy, nicknamed Father Hardstep because he'd been abandoned as an infant on a, uh, hard step. All in all it wasn't that good in my opinion.
