Kristen Wiig Lands Comedy Series At Apple

Apple is busy ramping up of original programming to try and shake up the streaming world, but no one is quite clear on how they’ll deliver that content. Wall Street thinks there’s a chance that the tech company might scoop up Netflix, but Apple certainly already has their iTunes Store to reach customers. Among the shows in development are Steven Spielberg’s anthology series “Amazing Stories,” a drama about a morning show that will star Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, “Are You Sleeping” starring Octavia Spencer, and possibly a space drama produced by J.J.

Apple is taking a bite out of Kristen Wiig.

The former Saturday Night Live star is set to headline a half-hour, Reese Witherspoon-produced comedy series for the company, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A studio is not yet attached.

Battlestar Galactica’s Ronald D. Moore to develop space race drama at Apple

As Apple continues its march into original programming, it has added yet another show to its slate, this time coming from the reimagined Battlestar Galactica creator Ronald D. Moore. Per Deadline, the untitled series will be a drama imagining what the world might look like if the global space race had never ended.

Moore has created and written the series along with Fargo executive producers Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi. Moore, Wolpert and Nedivi will executive produce the series with Moore’s Tall Ships Productions Maril Davis.

Moore is teaming up again with Sony Pictures Television for the series, specifically with former Sony TV presidents Jamie Erlicht & Zack Van Amburg. The pair left Sony for Apple earlier this year and have worked with Moore on several shows, such as Moore’s Outlander and Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams. Outlander Boss Ronald D. Moore's Space Drama Gets Apple Series Order
All of this has happened before and will happen again.

Ronald D. Moore, who helmed Syfy’s popular Battlestar Galactica reboot, has created and will oversee a space drama that has gotten a straight-to-series order at Apple, TVLine has confirmed.

Moore, who is currently executive producing Starz’s Outlander, will write and executive-produce the as-yet-untitled one-hour program. Maril Davis (Outlander), Matt Wolpert (Fargo) and Ben Nedivi (Outlander) also will executive produce.

The space series is the third large project Apple has recently greenlit, after a reboot of Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories reboot and a Jennifer Aniston/Reese Witherspoon morning-show drama.

There's a change behind the scenes at NBC.

Head of current programming Vernon Sanders is stepping down and seguing to producing, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Subsequently, Sanders has signed an overall deal with Universal TV and has come on board the studio's Amazing Stories anthology reboot for Apple.

“This was a not an easy decision, and the next chapter is truly bittersweet. Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston TV Series Gets 2-Season Pickup at Apple
Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston are heading to Apple!

The pair's upcoming TV show has landed at Apple following a multiple-outlet bidding war. Apple has already ordered two seasons of 10 episodes each, despite the show not having a title or any scripts yet.

Et confirmed that the pair would co-star in the series about TV morning shows in July. The project marks Aniston's major return to TV since Friends ended in 2004. Witherspoon, who is coming off the award-winning Big Little Lies, played Aniston's little sister on Friends.

Both Aniston and Witherspoon and their respective production companies, Echo Films and Hello Sunshine, will be executive producing the project, alongside former HBO drama head Michael Ellenberg. Jay Carson, a supervising producer on House of Cards, will be the series’ showrunner, while CNN’s Brian Stelter, who wrote a book about morning television, Top of the Morning, will be a consultant.

Apple Acquires Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon Daytime Talk Show Drama for 2 Seasons
Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston have just brought Apple into the scripted TV game. Their previously announced untitled drama about daytime talk show hosts has been granted a straight-to-series order for two seasons by the tech giant, which has recently begun developing original content.

The series, per Apple, will offer “an inside look at the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning, exploring the unique challenges faced by the women (and men) who carry out this daily televised ritual.”

Executive produced by Witherspoon, it’s a seismic deal for a number of reasons. Not only is the “Big Little Lies” star and executive producer committing fully to television after a longtime career working in film, but the show also marks Aniston’s official return to episodic storytelling since her time starring on “Friends.”

Apple teams with Amblin Entertainment and Bryan Fuller for Amazing Stories reboot

Back in October 2015 it was announced that Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) will be overseeing a reboot of the anthology series Amazing Stories for Amblin Entertainment and NBC, and now The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple has boarded the project for what will be the tech giant’s first foray into original video content.

Amazing Stories was created by Steven Spielberg, and originally ran on NBC between 1985 and 1987, featuring various fantastic, strange and supernatural tales. Directors who contributed to the series included Spielberg, Joe Dante, Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Robert Zemeckis, Brad Bird, Tobe Hooper, Irvin Kerschner and Tom Holland.

Fuller is set to serve as showrunner on the new take, which has received a ten-episode order, and reportedly has a budget of around $5 million per episode. As yet, there’s no word on how Apple intends to distribute the series.
